"This first-ever complete New Testament in The Voice aao translation" seeks clarity and relevance but tends to obscure. It retains chapter and verse divisions but introduces a great deal of "explanatory" interpolations in italics while setting "dialog" in "screenplay format." There are also text boxes with further interpretation, all making for a baffling mixture of old and new, nearly unreadable to the experienced eye-one hesitates to think what an iPod user might make of it.

    This Bible speaks to me!

    This is a wonderful way to read the New Testament. The idea of the writers was to have the scholars and writers work together to create a translation that was faithful and accurate to the original languages while at the same time beautiful and readable to the English speaking audience. I am no scholar or writer, but they have achieved their goal in my book.

    In between the verses of the 1st chapter of Matthew which tells of Jesus' geneology, The Voice adds comments between some of the verses about Tamar, Rahab, and Bathsheba. I like that. It explains in a short paragraph who Herod was when the angel told Joseph to move his family to Egypt. When they moved back to Bethlehem Herod had died and his oldest son was now ruling Judea. Again there is a short explanation describing this son and why Joseph decided to settle in Nazareth instead. And of course this was also a fulfillment of prophecy.

    And I love Romans 8:28: 'We are confident that God is able to orchestrate everything to work toward something good and beautiful when we love Him and accept His invitation to live according to His plan.' I do not believe this is adding to or taking away from God-breathed scripture, but rather enhancing and explaining the Bible into beautiful language that speaks to me. I can't wait to read more.

    When I first received a copy of The Voice, I said, “My biggest complaint about The Voice is that I didn't get two copies. I want to share it, but I want to enjoy it myself.”

    I succumbed. I gave my hard copy away when I saw that could get another free copy from Booksneeze, a bloggers book review program that does not require me to write a positive review. My original copy went to the pastor of the church we attend.

    If you’re hoping for a serious study Bible, you’ll be disappointed. Honestly, though, aren’t there a gazillion study Bibles out there?

    If you’re looking for a strict translation of the Bible, you’ll probably be disappointed, too. There are literal translations out there. Go find of those.

    If you’re looking for a Bible that draws you into the story, puts you right there when Jesus heals the blind man, or when the woman touches the hem of his garment, you’ll love it.

    The Voice is meant to bring the Bible to life, to tell the story the way a storyteller would, or a troubadour, relishing the beauty of the story itself as well as the words used to tell it. Those who contributed to The Voice were not just Biblical scholars, but were poets, musicians, and storytellers.

    If you can’t tell, I love it. Absolutely love it.

    The Voice New Testament: revised & updated is a narrative of the New Testament.
    But to totally appreciate this version of the Bible one needs to read the preface first. You will find the four major objectives in the preface which will lead you to the understanding on how this translation is unique from other translations.
    Another item in the introduction is 4 daily reading plans. These include the Christmas, Easter, read thru the New Testament in 24 weeks and personal growth reading. This is a very nice way of using The Voice New Testament Bible.
    The best part of this Bible is the explanation of the verses you have just read. The flow of this is smooth and you do not need to do to the bottom of the page as a footnote to understand the background of the verses you just read.

    The Story is a Bible translation that was published by Thomas Nelson. I wasn't initially inclined to read this version of the Bible, because I didn't like the idea of changing the Bible into a "story". I mean, isn't it already written in story form? But after reading some good reviews on the translation, I decided to read it. Here are my thoughts about The Story:

    I honestly must say that The Message is better than this translation, and I am not at all a fan of The Message. This translation of the Bible attempts to put into story form verses that are already in story form, and in its attempt to do this, it actually makes the Bible more difficult to understand. I have been a Christian for years and I have been a preacher for more than a year, and I still had to concentrate to understand some of the passages. I wouldn't recommend this to a mature Christian, much less a new believer.

    Another reason that I disliked this version of the Bible is because I feel like it takes away from the divinity of God and actually "waters down" the Word of God. It treats every Bible passage like a parable, and if you're an Evangelical Christian like myself, you will take great offense to this. But, what can you expect when you have a translator and contributor like Brian McLaren? Bottom-line: I completely dislike this book. I don't recommend it.

    To review The Voice (New Testament only), I read portions of the New Testament alongside my current Bible, the NASB, for clarity and accurateness. I came away very pleased with this version. They explain that The Voice is a combination of word-for-word and thought-for-thought, of which I usually fall into the word-for-word.

    The fact that this is not a gender neutral version appeals to me, as well as the fact that they don’t use today’s trendy language. Their goal was to “capture the beauty and brutal honesty of the Scriptures in a language that is timeless and enduring.” I believe they have accomplished that.

    I enjoyed the Screenplay format in the Gospels, as it brought out nuances I wouldn’t have thought of before. In Matthew 26, it states that Caiaphas ‘screeched’ when Jesus spoke of Who He was and His glory with God. Screeched, although I’ve never read it before in the Bible, made me think of demons screeching over the power of God. They are, after all who Jesus was making an open display of and conquering. It gave me a new perspective.

    Some of the aspects included are:

    Retelling the Bible not simply in words but also meaning and experience
    Recapturing the passion, grit, humor and beauty that have been lost in other translations in order to foster spiritual growth and theological explorations out of a heart for the mission of the Church and to worship God
    Collage of compelling narrative, poetry, song, truth and wisdom– reading the story of God with your whole heart, soul and mind

    They include four ways to Step into the Story:

    Readings for Advent
    Readings for Lent and Easter
    Read the New Testament in 24 weeks
    Daily readings for personal growth

    Each book has its own introduction. I love the extra ‘delineated material that expands the theme of the reading, which is disclosed in a second (deep mustard) color that includes cultural, historical, theological or devotional thoughts to enhance your knowledge.’ This further clarifies information pertinent to that portion of Scripture that gives a deeper meaning to the context.

    The end of The Voice Bible includes:

    Topical guide to the notes
    The titles of Jesus

    Let The Voice ‘reach, touch, change, move, teach, surprise, heal, inspire, humble and transform you!’ Will this version take the place of my current Bible? Probably not, but it certainly will enhance my understanding of the New Testament in ways never done before! For some of you, this will be your Bible of choice. (It comes in the complete New and Old Testament, but I only have the New Testament.) The purpose of reading the Bible is to grow in Christ as a believer. This version can help you do that!

    Not overly impressed

    I was so excited by this new resource, but I must confess, I wasn't that impressed. I began by reading the Gospel of Luke and found the story-telling was so simple that it left me wanting to read the version in my own Bible to see what it was they were leaving out. I then decided to try and see what a letter would be like, so I began reading through Ephesians. The translation was so different from what I'm used to that I felt like I was reading something different, which could be a good thing, but to me felt weird. Were they taking too many liberties with the translation? At the end of each section there was a commentary on what was being said. The commentary was so basic, I felt like they thought I must be Bible illiterate.

    This probably would be a great resource for new believers or those who just want to experience the New Testament in a new way, but I was hoping to go a lot deeper and learn a lot more than I did.

    Fresh Way to Read the Bible

    The Voice is an interesting Bible, it reads like a story. While I don't recommend this Bible for in-depth study it is great for new believers or even devotional reading. The purpose of this Bible was for the New Testament to read as a story and it does just that. The speaker identification and resources throughout the text make this Bible very easy to follow. The language of this Bible is simplistic yet it is this simplicity that aids in the reader being able to fully comprehend the text. Overall, I am very pleased with this Bible and would be happy to recommend it to anyone who is looking for a fresh way of reading the same Bible stories.

    Unique Bible experience

    Bible translation is a full space, with many different translations based on a variety of different philosophies.

    Every Bible I’ve read falls somewhere on a continuum, between a word-by-word translation with a focus on literal accuracy and paraphrases that capture the flavor and flow of the Biblical narrative.

    The Voice is a completely different Bible-reading experience.

    As its name implies, this version is intended to be experienced as a read-aloud. The audio recording of The Voice’s Book of Revelation emphasizes the strengths of this artistic rendering of the gospel message.

    However, I would not recommend it for daily study.

    The Voice is a unique, artistic experience. Many sections are written in script form, with cues for various readers. Additionally, there are many additions in italics which are intended to add to the flow of the reading, but are distracting in print.

    If you would like to experience the New Testament in a completely new and unique way, while reading it aloud, I give this version my highest recommendation.

    Awesome. Absolutely Loved it

    is for you. I am absolutely in love with this translation. This is the entire New Testament, and the verses are still very true to the original translation of the Bible, but are written in a much easier, understandable format. There is a short introduction at the beginning of each chapter, with a biography on the book, how it was named, or the person who is credited with writing it. The text of the chapters itself is written as if you are reading a play - the speaker of each statement is noted before the verse, and there are short sidenotes on the pages to help understand what is happening, or to define phrases or words that may be unfamiliar. This is a great way to better understand the traditional Bible, in a way that stays true to the Bible. I loved it. I would give this a 5/5. Awesome.

    Highly recommened

    I love this fresh, new translation of the New Testament. Can't wait for the Old Testament to be released! I especially appreciate the insertion of historical commentary and the formatting of dialog in a drama form. Very useful to worship planners as well as Bible study groups. I have both the hard copy and the Nook version. My only disappointments are that the print in the hard copy is small and faint for these old eyes and that the Nook version is difficult to navigate for finding specific chapter and verse.

    the Voice New Testament

    the Voice is a grand way to read scripture. I found the format to be almost play-like. In fact, I would recommend it to anyone wanting to produce a play based on the New Testament.
    It does take a while to get used to the layout but once you grasp that it is a good read.
    However, I do not have an E reader and so I got the actual book. The writing in it is quite small and squinty. I found it an effort to read the fine print.
    It is too bad because this detracts from the interesting layout and of course the fine story of scripture itself....

    Fresh Insight Into the New Testament

    For this new translation of the New Testament, the Ecclesia Bible Society brought together pastors, poets, scholars, musicians and other contributors. This translation seeks to enrich and deepen our understanding of the New Testament. Screenplay format, italicized historical notes, and suggestions for daily devotionals and study add fresh insight into Scripture. I found this translation engaging and valuable, but at first I found the book's structure a bit awkward. For example, I found it difficult to transition between the actual text and the added insights. However, after I got used to the format, I found that the translation deepened my understanding of the New Testament. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is seeking a greater understanding of the cultural and historical realities of the New Testament.     Awesome new Bible!

    Recently, I had the chance to review "The Voice, New Testament", a step into the story of scripture. Upon looking at the book it is hard to tell what the difference between this bible and all of the rest would really be, but difference there is. This bible is written in story form, almost as if you were reading a play. It announces who the speaker is and then what they are speaking. There are also special sections throughout which delve deeper into what is going on during that particular section and even defines some situations and words for the reader.

    I have to honestly say that I have enjoyed reading from this bible, it is easy to read and to follow. There have been a few times just lately, when I found myself stumped by the scripture lessons for the week and ran to this bible for some inspiration and found just that. It places familar verses in a new light, and it is easier to draw a mental picture of what was taking place when you can see who is speaking the words you are reading.

    I would for sure recommend this to anyone who is wanting to the read the bible, but finding the more traditional versions hard to read. It also would be good for younger readers who might have trouble reading for more wordy translations.

    The BEST!!!

    This is by far my most favorite copy of the bible. When I first started reading it, I went WOW! I absolutely fell in love with this bible. It's easy to understand and explains everything. It's neatly written, layed out, and is just plain great.

    There is just something about how this bible was written that I love. Maybe it's the way the words were set up, but I just absolutely love reading it. I thank Thomas Nelson for putting together such a great bible and I thank God for letting me be able to receive this bible. I'm really thankful that I got the chance to read it.

    A Very Easy Read!!!!

    The Voice Bible is a very easy to understand translation of the New Testament. It¿s broken down so even a small child or teenager can understand it word for word. even though it¿s without illustrations, it reads almost like a movie script or play . Telling who said what in the bible.it also has intresting footnotes and a nice topical guide. truly a different kind of approach to reading the word of god,but it works quite well. i would reccomend this to a new convert,or pre teen ,or teenager. it¿s worth the read .

    Don't Recommend

    I recently received a copy of "The Voice, New Testament, Step into the Story of Scripture" and I really was not that impressed with this version. To me this Bible was trying to be, I really hate to say this, politically correct. I really didn't like the layout of this bible, there are many versions out there to me (ESV, NIV, NKJ) that are really easy to understand and this was basically like a story type Bible. I also didn't like how they changed some of the best know versions in the New Testament to try and make them more understandable, verses like John 3:16 and Philippians 4:13 are already easy to understand, so why change them?     The Voice

    The Voice, New Testament translation of the bible, is a new, modern translation. This new bible is a hybrid that melds together the usefulness of a study bible, together with the simplicity of a paraphrase- in a screen play type of format to boot! This translation is based on the Voice, originally released a few years ago with some notable changes in the 2011 edition. In contrast to the first release, Jesus is no longer the "Liberator" , but rather the "Annointed". And John the Baptist, is no longer referred to as John the "Immerser" but John the Baptist. These changes from the earlier edition of the Voice, reflect a return to the more traditional rendering of the bible text. The significance of the word "voice", is based on the idea that Jesus is considered to be the "Logos" or the "word" as referenced in the first chapter of John. Just as the word is living and alive, a translation of the bible should be a living form of communication to share the good news of the gospel.

    This Voice translation, brings to life, the words of the bible in an easy to read paraphrase. This is not a literal translation, but this translation, nevertheless, gets the reader to understand the meaning of the bible. This bible is the perfect outreach method to reach out to those who have never read the bible, or perhaps find the bible too intimidating. Suitable for adults and youth alike, the life changing words of the bible are still maintained in this easy to read format. While this version does not have paragraph titles as other mordern versions, it is written in a screen play type of format. The text is broken up, based on the speaker. Each character is in a colored bold font, and the text follows just as in a play format. Paragraphs of explanatory text are inserted- yet distinct, from the actual bible text so as to not confuse the reader. The commentary makes this bible useful as a study bible!

    Neat Version

    I recently reviewed a new version of the bible out. It was a New Testament only. I am a go to KJV final answer only person. I have never seen a bible on the market like this one before. It takes you into it like a story. It takes each verse and tells it in story format. It even tells who is saying the verse. Its a very different version of the bible and I have never seen one like it. It kind of makes me feel as though I am reading it as a play. I would not use it as my final answer on matters and verses,but I do like how it tells the verse like a story and helps you understand what it is talking about,and a great book for reference,but like I said I still go to the KJV Bible for final answer and verses but I am not opposed to reading other versions to understand what it is saying. Overall it is a nice one if you just want to understand exactly what they are saying.
