Overview

The book that you are considering buying is nothing short of a VIP Pass to Enlightenment, written by the UFC's most infamous and feared destroyer of men--Chael P. Sonnen.

Backwoodsmen and unlearned folk call him the Walking Thesaurus. His contemporaries have bestowed upon him the title Sir Sonnen. And those dwelling in the forgotten, forlorn jungles south of the equator reverently refer to him as filho da puta, a term Sonnen personally deciphered using his mastery of linguistics. It means, simply, "the Great and Humble Bearer of Knowledge."

In the coming pages, Sonnen's commentary and tales of heroic adventure will initiate you into the world of superhuman greatness. Allow him to carry you like a frail damsel through the world of professional mixed martial arts as he cuts weight, deals with moronic cornermen, expresses his disdain for focus mitts and punching in general, gets his face rearranged, and finds support and
encouragement from fans. Permit him to cleanse your mind's palate and teach you the truth about history, politics, endangered species, cinema, terrorists, music, particle accelerators, and his plans for creating a Chaelocracy, which translates as "a Better Earth." Shower him with praise as he takes you into his manly mitts like a lump of clay and reshapes you in his own likeness.

Like all men of myth and legend, Sonnen strives for the betterment of the human race. Prometheus brought us fire; Dana White brought us the modern-day gladiator; and Chael P. Sonnen now brings us the step-by-step guide to being a great human being and patriot.

Purchase this book; learn how the world really works from the perspective of a man who has been face-to-face with presidents, wardens, dignitaries, judges, kings and queens, and athletic commissions; and find out if you have what it takes to awaken from your progressive nightmare. There is no better day to stop being you and start trying to be Chael P. Sonnen. The time has come for The Voice of Reason.

Chael Sonnen is the best trash-talker in all of sports.

In his spare time, Sonnen tinkers with the particle accelerator he built in his basement.

I read this in 2 sittings (Thanks for keeping me up til 4am. Chael!)Finishing a 220 page book in 2 sittings should certainly give you a hint that it's immensely readable. If you look at the page for the book, you don't really get any sense of what it's about. It kinda sounds like Chael's version of a self-help book. You'd also expect it to be about Chael and about MMA. Ummm... kinda but not really. It starts off with Chael describing what it's like leading up to a fight -the grueling and often mundane and irritating logistics of it. That is: packing; airport parking and security; worrying whether your cornermen have packed important things like your mouthpiece or just brought dozens of pairs of focus mitts (apparently cornermen are gaga over focus mitts); the hotel; the weigh-ins; and so-on. Of course it's done with plenty of Sonnen-esque pull-no-punches wit and humor. The next chapter recounts the life-long lessons that Chael's school wrestling coach taught him -namely that you don't make excuses and you fulfill your obligations and if you say you're going to do something, you do it at all costs. It's good stuff -funny and inspirational. So, you begin to think, "Okay. This is an autobiography. That's cool." ...And then comes the chapter extolling Richard Nixon as one of the greatest presidents and, to be fair, Chael makes plenty of valid, intelligent points -perhaps a bit overstated but that can be forgiven since it's contrary to the stock opinions you usually hear about "Tricky Dick". But this seems kind of a strange detour in this "autobiography". As the book goes on, you get Chael's opinion on all sorts of topics from the self-serving, self-righteous narcissism that "ChaCha" thinks drives most liberals to why The Godfather films were over-rated and a list of better films from the era. Here's a chapter on good and bad walk-out songs, here's one on a prank that his roommate played in college, here's one on his money-laundering charge... Okay. This is not an autobiography and this is not a self-help book and this is not really about MMA. It's a collection of essays by Chael P. Sonnen. So, now that I've figured out that it is a book of collected essays, how are those essays? They're awesome of course. However, if you're hoping for a book that's just about MMA or a bio of Chael Sonnen, you may be disappointed. It's more about Chael's opinions than it's about Chael. That's not to say there aren't parts about MMA and the life of a fighter- he talks about his fight with Anderson, he breaks down various Martial Arts and surmising that they're all, to varying degrees, silly and worthless except for wrestling -of course. He gets into his TRT issues with the CSAC. But MMA related content probably only makes up roughly half the book. And that's also not to say you don't get a little more insight into Chael as a person. His opinions reveal some of what makes him tick and there are some moments of him recounting embarrassing moments and a touching recounting of some of the values that his late father taught him. But you're not going to get a soul-bearing autobiography of the man behind the man. Maybe you don't care what Chael thinks about Nixon or The Godfather films, or the occupy movement or walk-out music. Well, then maybe this book isn't for you. But if you have interests beyond MMA and you enjoy hearing Chael's articulate and entertaining perspective on things, then you should definit

I really enjoyed the book. It's funny and insightful. Clocking in at 177 pages, though, it feels a bit short. Even if I don't agree with everything, the book provides an interesting perspective on lots of topics, from fighting to politics.

After UFC 148 last week, Chael really should change the name of his book to: "Voice Silenced! A VIP Pass To How To Lose The Biggest Moment Of Your Life & Looking Like A Clown While Doing It!!!" That aside, this guy is the last guy on the planet to look to for imparting life lessons. Anyone who takes trash talking to levels that cross into blatant racist comments like saying Brazillian kids love playing in the mud or joking about the level of poverty that exists in that country, dragging another man's family into your crosshairs just to get a rise out of him & talking about hitting women on the butt & ordering them to fix them dinner as if this were still the dark ages is far from being an ideal role model for others. Alot of people abroad unfortunately already have a negative picture of our beloved country & this s.o.b. is just reenforcing that negative preception about us with his disgusting egomaniacal behavior & comments for all the world to see on live TV. Guys like him are also the reason why some countries & states like New York continue to wrongly view the fantastic sport of MMA as thugs participating in human cockfighting & thus refuse to sanction it. If you're a Chael fan, hey you won't bother with this review. This is a free country after all & that's ok. But if you're not or a just a non-MMA person looking for a interesting new read. Avoid at all costs. If you never heard of this guy, watch & read some of his comments first before so much as picking this up! I'm just glad I got to see him eat his words once & for all twice!!!
