The Walker Book of Ghost Storiesby Susan Hill
To read some collections of ghost stories, you would think that all ghosts glide gruesomely along the corridors of cold country houses rattling their chains. Read the stories in this stunning collection and you will marvel at how different one ghost is from another. For there are ghosts here of many different backgrounds: old ghosts and young ones, funny ghosts and sad ones, well-intentioned ghosts and others with a decidedly mean streak.

I presume all the stories in this book of ghost stories are great and mysterious, but the best and most mysterious one so far is one author's story called 'Nule.' This is about a newel post made into a figure by the children who live in the house. They call him Nule. One night, a child witnesses Nule climbing the staircase and knew he came to life. The child tells nobody, but has to get rid of Nule before he walks again... Great book full of mysterious and interesting ghost tales...........
The stories in this book are really great, but if your looking for something to frighten, this isnt for you.But this is perfect for reading aloud to students of the lower grades or younger children. The stories aren't like traditional ghost stories, but a nice alternative and the illustrations are wonderful.
