It was when I finished reading the book that I finally got the reason why Father Gabriel leads group prayer at the very beginning. This book is all politics. We met Gregory and Jesus who lead The Hilltop in Book eight. Now we are meeting Negan: the monstrosity who they pay taxes to, half of every food, supplies and medications to. Rick has backed down, surrendered all to Negan. Abraham and Glenn are killed. Eugene does bite Negan in the nuts, Carl takes a ride with Negan, and we witness the horrors that his people experience on a day-to-day basis. You don't want to get to know Lucille! Low and behold: Eugene wants to help Ricks group! Thank God for new leadership!
