Robert Kirkman has done no less than write Greatest Zombie Story EVER. Think of the best parts of the George A. Romero films. Consider what are your favorite scenes in Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead remake. Ponder the best chapters and narrators in Max Brooks' World War Z. The Walking Dead has all of that, put together, plus a whole lot more. More in-depth, fully fleshed out characters, simple yet stunning plots, heartbreaking humanity, and buckets of zombie gore! The story is great, the artwork is fantastic. Today, as in the zombie-infested future, this will be seen as a benchmark of the genre. This book, with RED lettering and figure on cover, collects the first 12 issues of the comic book (Volumes 1 & 2 of the trade paperback collections). Have I mentioned that this may be the Greatest Zombie Story EVER ? The Walking Dead: There Is No Substitute.

I am a HUGE fan of the show and was made aware of the comic books because of it. Boy, am I glad! Even knowing some things were going to correlate, I still exclaimed in joy or sadness as I read them. This is a fantastic series and a terrific hardcover! My family picked a great Christmas present for me!!!

While zombies have enjoyed a recent resurgence in popularity through movies and books, my favorite of which is World War Z, this graphic novel stands out above all others. Forgoing the usual background and initial zombie onslaught, it jumps right in to the height of the zombie plague and takes to a world falling apart. The writing is extremely good with believable characters who act as one would expect when their world has fallen apart. The black and white art, which is some of the best I have seen, captures the desolation and bleakness of the characters situation. A must read for anyone who likes zombies or just in the mood for a good story

I love the TV show on Channel 856, but I know that it is the comic books that started it all.  I am glad to see some of the main characters in the comics as they are in the show, but I am still troubled with the fact that relationships are slightly different than in the shoe.  Dale and Andrea NEVER had sex in the TV show, Tyresse doesn't appear until the third season and he doesn't work alongside Rick Grimes like Daryll does in TV Show.  They don't spend much time at the farm (that is the time I started to get pumped up about the show.  There is no Donna-- but I am assuming that Carol (on the show) takes her place(which is good.  I guess that is what re-writes are about.  Congrats to Robert Kirkman who started it all in 2001.  I will by all the hard bound comic volumes for the fact that a hardcore Walking Dead fan should.  I do know that I am liking the comics far better than I do the novels. Again characters not portrayed on the show appear in the novels, and other characters have different roles than the characters on the show.  I will read on, but the show gets the five stars.

I got into the comic books while I was waiting for the TV show's Season 3 to come back from its hiatus. I've read Books 1-4 as of now, and it's a phenomenal series. I liked Shane a lot more in the TV show, but I was fine with the comic book version as brief as it was. I did like the book's version of staying in a town home complex much better than the show's CDC spin. Great book series, and the prison ending (a la Season 2 TV finale foreshadowing) made me immediately buy Book 2.

I love the Walking Dead. This is the book to get. The graphic novels are a bit different from the television series but I still love both and hope to buy more books in the future.

I love watching the walking dead is an amazing book. I love to watch it every Sunday when it comes on. I like to read the books about it. even though the show is different from the show, i still like to read the books about it. I would prefer to read the books because they tell more and you can read ahead and found out what happens later on in the show, but i like watching the show because i like the characters on the show.

This is a awesome book. I read this book, but it is not better than the movie. The movie is better to me, but you need to read the book your self

I am loving the graphic novels of The Walking Dead. I was a bit surprised when I finished the first book and seen that it was a bit different from the tv series. But the tv shows and movies are always a changed in one way or another. But I got to say that I am loving the graphic novles. I have bought 1-5 so far and am getting ready to purchase the last 2.
