Dream-related guidebooks have been published in great profusion since the era of surrealism. In his contribution, Reading (The Music-Makers: A Bittersweet Love-Song for the Dreamers of Dreams) defines specific dream components in 3000 paragraph-long entries arranged alphabetically by symbol name. In a prefatory user's guide, he employs his own extensive dream sequence to demonstrate the book's interpretive application. Definitions have a Western perspective; manifest a lingering Freudian influence; draw on mythology; and occasionally offer parenthetical, seemingly subjective commentary. Although Reading sometimes makes psychological analyses, he offers no bibliographical references. Recommended for collections with other dream guide material as a research anchor.
