The work is done for you. Great Animal Reference!

A+ Reference. It's all up to you how far you want to take it. This book is on another level of anatomical detail. The only thing more detailed is to dissect the animals yourself. Awesome Anatomy! This is the first version with a great range of common and exotic animals.

You' ve seen the rest, now see the best!

I have done research on many animal drawing books and have come across many that simply have a lot of pretty pictures, but no actual substance. But reader, fear no longer, Joe Weatherly to the rescue! I was amazed with the author's brilliant line work. Weatherly reviews the basic fundamentals of observing from life such as structure, form, rythm, anatomy etc. and applies them beautifully to animals. He is truly a master draftsman and without hesitation will go headfirst into each drawing to show you how it should be done. The bar of animal drawing has now been raised with this book and I cannot wait for any further/upcoming installments of this modern day master.

    GREAT HOLIDAY GIFT

If there are any older children or adolescents in your life who are interested in drawing, this is the book for them! This author approaches animal drawing the same way that art schools teach drawing of the human figure. There is a marvelous variety of animals to learn from, not just puppies and kittens. Parents' will not be offended as they might with a gift on drawing the nude human figure. All the kids I have given this to love this book, and the parents are delighted!

A Great Introduction to Animal Drawing

In a clear and concise manner, focusing on knowledge and not superficialities, The Weatherly Guide gives one the tools that one needs to start drawing animals. Coming to this book as a beginner at animal drawing, it was great to see how the author took all the concepts needed to be considered in any good drawing and then applied them to this specific field. Within the book, the knowledge is presented on different levels, such that a full understanding of the subject may be acquired. We are given both conceptual form breakdowns for the creatures, which allow one to get a quick handle on what one is drawing, and anatomical details that allow one to develop these forms into something more specific and individual. In this way the Weatherly guide is a great place to start in learning the art of animal drawing. It presents the information in a more digestible fashion than one would necessarily find in an anatomy book, whilst avoiding a stylised approach to drawing.

A Great Addition To Anyones Library!

If you want to not just draw animals, but draw them with an intensity and character that they hold in real life then this book will help you understand the ideas of gesture, structure, form, and anatomy like no other animal drawing book of it's contemporaries or it's predecessors.

THE BEST ANIMAL DRAWING GUIDE EVER!!!

Joe Weatherly's Guide to Drawing Animals is the only book one will need to understand the anatomy and construction of dynamic animal figures. This author takes an approach similar to that of the 'Old Masters' towards the human figure and applies it to the animal world in an easy to understand and very approachable manner. This Guide is appropriate for artists on all levels. The beginners will learn the basics and draw with volume and motion with relative ease. The more advanced artists will finesse their work, and likely add dynamism to their drawings. A definite 5 Stars!!

FINALLY! THE BOOK I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR

Joe Weatherly knows the anatomy of animals more than any animal drawing instructor I have known. He not only knows his animals, but has the unique ability to translate this knowledge into easy to understand instruction. I am a serious artist and have been drawing animals for years, but amateur artist friends of mine who have seen the book are also able to glean Joe's knowledge. FIVE BRIGHT STARS FOR THIS ONE!!!
