Picked up this book because the review I read compared Lucy Kevin to Norah Roberts. Unfortunately this couldn't be further from the truth and I can only imagine the reviewer was either a family member or the author herself!
The main characters were completely underdeveloped and the speed with which their romance progressed nearly gave me whiplash.
The heroine was so riddled with "teen angst" that it was impossible to take her seriously as a lead character. I don't think I've ever met (or read about) an adult female with worse self-esteem. She much more closely resembled a 14 year old girl and I was never remotely convinced she could have owned her own restaurant - even a failing one.
Research was also obviously FAR from the author's thoughts as she wrote this. It was readily apparent that the author knows nothing about restaurant ownership or wedding planning, nor did she research either subject to fill in the gaps.
First and last novel I will read by this particular author...

I am the pickiest reader you could ever meet; I have been stuck on my favorite writers/authors for many of years. Bad experiences have made me cautions in adding new authors. Writers like Nora Roberts (JD Robb), Julie Garwood and Catherine Coulter, the hitch is I only read series. I just happen on the Wedding Gift; I wanted to read it because I thought it would be interesting and it was a series (sold). I expected it to be obvious in plot and the characters to be typical.
I was pleasantly surprise of Lucy Kevin writing style. The plot was obvious but the writing made it so that you were interested in the outcome of the players. I saw myself as Julie and could picture every scene throughout the book. The book was so well written that I could not put it downs. I am happy to say this book was a great read. You could get lost in the world you are reading and somehow be a part of it. I am not sure how long Lucy Kevin has been writing but I look forward to reading more of her book. I just couldn’t put the book down until I finish.
Out of five stars, I give this a 3.5, because it's series and its a book I would read over again.

A great beginning to a romantic series. The plot revolves around a wedding venue and it's workers. This book involves the chef at the wedding venue. Don't want to give anything away. It was a fun read and I look forward to the next book coming out it the spring. Wish there was a way to notify readers when it is released, I might forget about it in 2 months. I think I will go check out Ms. Kevin's other books in the meantime.

This was a nice start to a series, romance but not "over sexed". I really enjoyed the book.

Not fancy by any means, but a sweet story none the less. In a time where money is in short supply, well worth the cost. I'll read the 2nd one when it's released.

This book is the cutest, most addicting, loving story ever! It was amazingly written and I wanted (and did) read it over and over again! It was romantic, funny, and so darn relatable that it deserves 1000,000,000,000,000,000 stars!

I enjoyed this light fiction story. It is entertaining and has a light touch of romance. It is a pleasant surprise to find an author who doesn't feel the need to go into the minute details of love making. Bravo! I am looking forward to the next books in the series and will be looking for other books by Lucy Kevin.

The Wedding gift by Lucy Kevin is a love story that explores how our childhoods can effect our adult lives. The two main characters in the book both have childhoods where they are discouraged from being themselves. They are both encouraged to conform to what their parents think is best for them. One grows up making their own decisions despite the family censure. The other, fearing they really are incapable, goes into adulthood taking no risks and being very unhappy and unfulfilled. The Wedding Gift tells the story of how they meet, how that meeting brings out the best in both of them, the trials they have to go through to find the acceptance and love they never really had before.

I loved every minute of this book. I could not wait to get back to the book everyday at lunch. I ended up finishing the book late into the night. I cannot wait for the 2nd in the series. Lucy wrote a wonderful book that was each to ready, wonderful characters, and at time I felt like I was transported into the book.

This is my first experience with Lucy Kevin and I will definitely be back for more. The character development was good, while at the same time you were thrown right into the storyline from the start. A very quick read for me, and now I'm off to get more books from this author!

This was a very nice romance and makes me want to read more books by this author. I enjoyed the way the food angle was woven through this book. It made you cheer for the characters when things went right and to be distressed when things weren't so great. Good job, Lucy!
