Overview

Ah, love. From the gentle beat and optimistic lyrics of its opening track -- Lisa Stansfield's "My Baby Waits for Me" -- the soundtrack to the romantic comedy The Wedding Planner is a tribute to that mushiest of emotions. The sugary disc, featuring mostly lesser-known artists but sprinkled with a few big names, sweetly accents the film's plot, which follows the blossoming love between a would-be groom (Matthew McConaughey) and the lady employed to plan his big day (Jennifer Lopez). Jessica Riddle samples "Mr. Big Stuff" on her bright, bouncy "Symphony," and there's plenty of sweetness to be found on Nikki Hassman's lovely "Adore You" and Jessica Sheely's ballad "In Good Time," which is reminiscent of Madonna's early singing days. Perhaps the most surprising finds here are Olivia Newton-John's classic 1974 weeper "I Honestly Love You" and the late John Denver's earnest, soaring No.1 hit, "Annie's Song." Rounding out the album are tracks from Sister Hazel (the exuberant "We'll Find It") and Nobody's Angel (the cheery, R&B-flavored "I Can't Help Myself"), plus two instrumental tracks composed by Mervyn Warren, one an upbeat tango and the other the film's gentle, sweeping love theme. No matter what your tastes, this soundtrack packs in something for everyone to fall in love with.

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Heather Phares
Adam Schankman's lighthearted, somewhat goofy romantic comedy The Wedding Planner has an appropriately romantic soundtrack featuring songs by Lisa Stansfield, Sister Hazel, Dan Finnerty, and excerpts of Mervyn Warren's score. Jessica Riddle's "Symphony," Jessica Sheely's "In Good Time," and Mishelle Bradford-Jones' "Life Is What You Make It" are some of the album's pop highlights, but the soundtrack's cleverest touch is the addition of songs like John Denver's "Annie's Song" and Olivia Newton John's "I Honestly Love You," both mainstays of wedding receptions. Though it's unfortunate that The Wedding Planner's soundtrack doesn't include any musical contributions from the film's star Jennifer Lopez, it's still a fairly entertaining collection of love songs.

I bought this right before Valentine's Day, and it was a very fitting soundtrack for that holiday! I especially love the first, third, and last 2 songs! The love theme is SO sweet, and the songs by Lisa Stansfield, Nikki Hassman and Nobody's Angel relate to my own life and romantic feelings! I also love the Sister hazel song! This album is V-day at it's best! it was a great movie too! I never realized it, but J-Lo can really act! Any romantic should love this!

I must say that I loved this soundtrack. I also am head over heals for the movie. I loved the music because it fit every scene of the movie. Most movies don't! Well anyway it was a great soundtrack. The Best I ever purchased.
