In The Wellness Diaries, Owen writes meaningfully with warmth, openness, and bravery about his own journey with mental illness and recovery. He takes us deep into the dark and tumultuous world of paranoid schizophrenia, telling us his story in a way that makes it compellingly real and relatable to anyone.

From the fear and confusion of his first slips into mental illness, through all of the twists and turmoil that followed, Owen’s story is fascinating. We’re taken vividly into the into the less than perfect world of medical diagnosis and treatments, the difficult life that faces those encumbered by disability, and the crushing despair of giving up hope for a better life. Owen’s story is one of incredible highs, and incredible lows, including immanent plans for suicide.

Remarkably though, it is ultimately a story of hope and recovery. The second part of this book is about Owen’s emergence into both mental and physical wellness, and includes almost step-by-step suggestions for others on a similar path.

Anyone who is affected directly or indirectly by mental illness, or anyone merely interested in mental wellness generally, should definitely read this book.
