When I read the title of this book, I started smiling and didn’t stop till long after I had finished the last page. We have all heard stories of Jonah and the Whale at some time in our lives. But, you’ve never heard one quite like this. In this delightful book we get to hear the whale’s side of the story. The whale tells how God told him to swallow Jonah, but he refused because humans taste like dirt. However, before he knew it he had swallowed Jonah and couldn’t get rid of him. The whale goes on to explain what happened while Jonah was in his stomach and how he came to throw Jonah up on the shore after three days. Author Troy Schmidt does a wonderful job explaining the story in such a way youngsters will never forget. Schmidt blends the elements of trust, obedience and understanding into an inspiring message. The whale, as well as Jonah, learned from the experience. Youngsters will be enchanted by the book’s beautiful illustrations by Cory Jones.
