On a cold April in 1786, Joseph kisses his widowed mother goodbye in impoverished St. Giles District of London, England. He is a good, hard-working man and loves her, but everything in life has not been fair. Pressed by want and years spent in the run-down and polluted parts of the city, he steps aboard the Fortune, a British whale ship bound for the Pacific Ocean, in hopes of a better life. As Fortuna, the goddess of the figurehead would have it, not only the natural perils would enter the square-rigged barque with him on the Greenland Dock that day. One man, who escapes the city unpunished for his violent executions and another who brings a deadly disease hidden beneath his clothes is also counted in the Register. As whales are killed and their precious oil is boiled out in the months that follow, Joseph and his fellow crewmen unknowingly become desperately entangled in a disaster of inescapable death. Every man becomes subjected to ghastly torments as they struggle to stay alive upon the rugged decks of the cursed ship. Being busy with the duty to harvest the great beasts have made them consequently too late. Plague, shipwreck, and plotted murder of any survivors is on a fatal collision-course with Joseph and there is nowhere for him to run or hide.

The Whaler Fortune is a riveting tale of anticipated deliverance - the spiritual story of one man's faith, tried in the heated fires of desperation, hopelessness, unraveled reasoning, and absolute terror.

Meet the Author

Wyatt Michael is a musician, singer, songwriter, suspense/thriller novelist, artist, and screenwriter. He owns Michael & Company Pictures, a film production company that he writes for.

Wyatt learned to play the saxophone in 1984 with his school symphonic band. He held First Chair position for five years until he quit to learn guitar in 1989. Throughout his teens and early twenties, his music was showcased on many radio stations from Ohio to California (before internet radio was an idea). Later, he and his co-writer Samuel Atkinson built a recording studio and taught themselves how to use it. Over the next six years, his band, Only Makebelieve, recorded and finally released Message From A Mockingbird, an Alternative Pop masterpiece album that received rave reviews from critics all over the world. The group set out on a tour and promoted the album, which also ran on national college radio.

Through stressful job situations - working nights in dark factories for years on end and driving semis across ice-covered mountains, Wyatt created a mental way of escape; writing stories. He began to write film scripts and his friends found them to be worthy of the screen. After getting a feel for the new creative form, Wyatt took on the daunting endeavor: The Whaler Fortune, his first novel.

The Whaler, Fortune is a Biblical Psalms 91:11 story. Of all the stories Wyatt has written, this one most reflects him personally; hence "Joseph Michael" and his talents/woes. The Whaler, Fortune is a maritime-based adventure/thriller, but readers of all types of thriller fiction will find that this story is a classic.

THE WHALER FORTUNE is available in beautiful paperback or on Kindle Books. Search for it online.

This story is great. Loved every minute of it. If you love adventure, action, peril, intense survival situations, and suspense this is up your alley. I wanted to skip work and read another chapter. Most books I want to pitch in the trash, but this is one of those rare good ones. I recommend this one to anyone.

This book is really a sweet read. The suspense and action is so intense that I didn't want it to end. I have passed this one along to my friends. Too bad these kind of books do not come along often enough...the kind where there is a gripping plot. You don't have to like sea stories to love this book..it's just good. I love reading Historical setting Fiction and this one is very well researched. I actually felt like I was on the ship with the characters. I hope Wyatt Michael is writing his next one now. I know this kind of author can really spin a tale.

    I Also Recommend:

This Adventure / Thriller novel, The Whaler Fortune, is totally

This Adventure / Thriller novel, The Whaler Fortune, is totally awesome!! I 've never read maritime-type books before, but this story is for ALL lovers of Thriller Fiction! By the end of the book, I was hanging onto the edge of my seat! The story is laid out for the ultimate terror ride where it seems there is no escape; all in a creepy and unique setting. It is well written Historical Fiction and is poetic at times. I can't imagine being stuck on a ship at sea, hundreds of miles from civilization! The men who did it in those days were insane! Wyatt Michael is an amazing new author and I can't wait to see what he has next. I loved it and recommend it to anyone who finds most books poorly written and boring with stupid endings who need an antitdote of thrill from an actual writer! I hope they make this one into a movie!! GET IT!!
