Wheat is a cornerstone of the American diet. It’s safe to say, then, that an idea going against this American staple requires a logical and scientific explanation. This book contains an argument possessing both. Numerous details, bolstering the concept, are found throughout the book. In addition to this, the book also aids the reader in transitioning to a wheat-free lifestyle by including sample meal plans and recipes. Modern wheat can actually be detrimental to your overall health. Surprising but true, John Chatham states in his most recent book. Wheat is directly linked to diabetes, it can affect our immune systems and overall mental health, just to name a few of the ways wheat is not all it’s said to be. There are alternatives out there to help one transition from one’s current diet to a wheat-free diet. Chatham provides the resources as well as what to consider when transitioning to a wheat-free diet. The book also includes 50 wheat-free recipes to help one start living a healthier life today, live longer and better. There are great choices from garlic and herb roasted chicken to healthy milkshakes.

The Wheat Free Diet & Cookbook clearly lays out a plan to eat wheat free. This book lays out the many drawbacks of wheat in the diet due to “Frankenwheat” or the cumulative genetic makeup of wheat. Some negative side effects of eating wheat are advanced aging, neurological issues, diabetes and celiac disease. By avoiding wheat in the diet, other positive benefits are better skin, reduced weight, less insulin fluctuations, and no or low carb addiction. The meal plans look very delicious and well-balanced. I can’t wait to try it!

The Wheat Free Diet and Cookbook by Rockridge Press - Review by Jan OMalley : This enjoyable book is a "must have" in the kitchen. The recipes alone are simple, stylish, and fit for a king. It is a book that has everlasting value in that it clearly explains the values of a wheat- free diet and how this diet can meet many of the body's nutritional needs for improved brain function, skin health, PH balance, weight loss, and aging prevention. It also has extensive information related to diabetes, insulin, and gluten control. Most importantly, this book clearly defines why a wheat-based diet is detrimental to the human body. Additionally, the information presented was based on extensive research and studies. I particularly enjoyed learning about the glycemic values of fruits and vegetables and which ones to avoid. If aging, digesting, or lack of energy are things you feel would improve without the addition of wheat to your daily menu, then this book is probably one of the better and more affordable guides to help get you there. It’s reasonable in the transition from wheat inclusive diets to taking on a wheat-free approach, and gives good background and reasoning behind how/why wheat can be unhealthy for many people. I don’t think the book is for everyone, but for anyone who does need to remove wheat from their diet (or firmly believes that they do) this book provides a good place to start.

The Wheat Free Diet and Cookbook   explains how wheat was transformed from a good nutrient to a unhealthy food product, through the development of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.  This change has developed into a serious health problem, for our society today, in a way, that we are having difficulty with mental, physical and emotional problems that has scientific research and the medical profession trying to assess the value of wheat and grain in our daily diet.

From diet to recipes to how wheat aggravates and even causes health issues is all explained in John Chatham’s book. Wheat and gluten is not only bad for those suffering from celiac disease and gluten intolerance, but for the general population. We are all taught as children that we need 9-12 servings of wheat per day.  Wheat today is tremendously genetically modified.   The book shows you an easy to approach lifestyle change. This will truly change the way you think of whole grain. Five thumbs up one of the best diet books out there today.

So-long Wheaties! Breakfast will never be the same, but at least it will be healthier. Once you get over the fact that the list of things you can’t eat far outweighs (excuse the pun) the list of substitutes, you have a better shot at this heavy fruits & veggies regime. Some of the dishes are surprisingly tasty, but to go all the way would be challenging.

The Wheat Free Diet & Cookbook is highly informative and the recipes are easy to follow. I appreciate that there are recipes for snacks and dessert, along with standard meals. They are well organized, but rather demanding, as is the entire diet/lifestyle in general. However, the citing of sources was inconsistent, which is problematic since this book basically contradicts what we've always been taught and requires an extra convincing argument to shift our perspective.

This book gives a slew of reasons to eliminate wheat from your diet now and forever; explains the different between current wheat and real wheat, the hows and whys of our modern-day “frankenwheat”, as well as the many medical conditions that consumption of it can lead to.  The latter half of the book gives recipes to replace wheat with.  A real eye-opener.

The Wheat Free Diet and Cookbook is an excellent example that what we don’t know can hurt us.  Research has proven that the genetically modified, new grown wheat, hasn’t allowed our bodies the time to adapt to the changes, resulting in an unsafe product.  The book explains the benefits of a wheat-free diet, which includes weight loss and improvements to skin, health, and brain function.   Tips and suggestions for snacks and appetizers, breakfasts, lunches, and dinners are offered along with several easy to follow recipes. Transitioning into a wheat-free diet will improve both bodily and mental functions and this is the book that paves the way.

The days of believing that wheat is a healthy choice for us are in the past. Of all of the things we have come to learn are actually pretty bad for us, this one may be up there one my most disappointing list. However, after reading this book, I believe there is hope for wheat lovers alike. If the recipes aren't enough to convince you of how much better off you are without wheat, the information surrounding the genetic modifications being made to wheat and how they are actually hurting our bodies sure will! Plus, there's always the added bonus of loss of belly fat!

Going wheat-free is no small task, and this book does a great job of emphasizing that while talking you through everything to consider and how to make the change work for you. I appreciated the wealth of information (nearly half the book is information before the recipes even start), as well as the easy-to-follow meal and snack suggestions. Great way to start this new eating habit!
