BeBe Winans met Whitney Houston in church 28 years ago, and they quickly developed a close bond. They considered each other family in the deepest sense of the word—hanging out in each other’s homes, singing backup vocals for each other on albums, touring together. BeBe was with her when she was onstage and far from the spotlight, on the set and in the studio, through good times and the worst of times—and this very personal book takes readers inside all of those places to give a real and intimate picture of the Whitney he knew. Here readers will discover new information and insights into both Whitney’s heart and her world—information that they will not find anywhere else. From profoundly moving moments to eye-opening accounts of triumph to the heart-breaking realities that led to her ultimate defeat, the stories are here, along with links to never-before-seen private videos of Whitney and a full-length photo section. In his moving tribute at her funeral, Winans reaffirmed that she will be remembered for her warm, lavish generosity, her faith, and her lighthearted humor—those positive truths that overshadow any negative missteps in recent years. “In my heart and in my mind, I have memories of so many great, great moments,” he says. “She will live in our hearts forever.”

I really enjoyed this book far more than I expected to. I received an ARC from Worthy Publishing through NetGalley and began reading immediately. Initially, I was a bit reluctant to even read the book because I thought it was just going to be BeBe capitalizing on his connection to Nip with no real insight. As I trudged on, however, I found a book that was written by a friend who is truly still in mourning and missing Nip like WE (the fans) miss her. If you're looking for a sensationalized accounting of the bold and brash Whitney Houston that the media liked to highlight, you've got the wrong book. The title alone lets you know that this is all from BeBe's perspective and at his discretion. Could he have gone into a bit more detail about some portions of Whitney's life? Absolutely! Did we necessarily need him to? Not at all. He shared the portions of his friend with which he felt comfortable and I was pleased. This book left me with a sadness, still. Just when I thought I'd gotten used to living in a world without Whitney, TWIK brought back all of the feelings that night when I heard she'd passed. I'm not really a huge worshiper of celebs, but Whitney's talent touched me in a way few can compare. I found myself missing her immensely as I read BeBe's accounts of their friendship.

The Whitney I knew by Bebe Winans. This biography of Whitney Houston is written by a dear friend of hers, Bebe Winans.  Having loved Whitney's music for a long time I was blessed to be able to meet her through this book.     The best part of this book was the personal stories shared about Whitney, how family was so important to her and what a generous and wonderful person she was, even generously making a loan of 50,000 dollars to the author for the house he wanted to buy but didn't have the money for, never asking or expecting him to pay her back. This book will open your eyes to the abuse of celebrities and how Whitney who craved deep loving relationships, was hurt by people who misused her and attacked her.  It brought to light the fact that often the world abuses the people in the spotlight making incorrect assumptions about them and hating them for it, never comprehending that whatever their social status they are people too.     I doubt until reading this book anyone will know how close she was to the Winans, I certainly didn't.  Bebe, Cece and all the Winans were her adopted brothers and sisters, who she could always count on to be there for her.     I was glad to see the way the author wrote wrote about her life, in a loving honest way, wanting the world to see past the tabloids and magazines and their lies and distortion to the true Whitney, also from a Christian perspective thus being able to write about her faith in God. I would recommend this book that I so enjoyed to anyone who loves her or her music. Bones are minor, and include a quote from T D Jakes.I received this book free from Worthy Publishing in exchange for an honest review.

After reading this book, I was very moved. Bebe Winans was clearly one of Whitney Houston closest friends. Here, you get to see Whitney the girl from New Jersey as oppossed to Whitney the star. Like all of us, Ms. Houston was human and struggled with life, something Mr. Winanas points out. I also appreciated his defense of Bobby Brown. This book is a definite must read for anyone who wants to learn more about Whitney Houston and her life.

Author: BeBe Winans Published By: Worthy Publishing Age Recommended: 14+ Reviewed By: Arlena Dean Blog For: GMTA Rating: 5 Review: "The Whitney I Knew" by Bebe Winans was a very enjoyable read. This author did a wonderful job in letting us really see Whitney in truth...dignity and love. I thought this was a awesome novel that tells 'funny personal stories' that only this author could share with us .....the reader. Mr. Winans gives his own perspective view and with his discretion did a wonderful job of giving us..Whitney Houston (Nip) life truths that only he wanted to share with us ..the reader. Mr. Winans wanted to open our eyes to see that Whitney Houston was human...she breathed, cried, bleeds, falls, get up, stumble and just gets back up again. Whitney Houston was a 'loyal friend, mother, sister, daughter, cousin, aunt, and also a spouse.' I felt "The Whitney I Knew" was beautiful written by a dear friend that really loved Whitney. Did Whitney have struggles...yes and many people have struggled too ...but one thing for sure we all know that Whitney Loved Jesus...her favorite song...'Jesus Loves Me.' I really loved "The Whitney I Knew" and would recommend to all as a excellent read and will leave you yearning to hear her beautiful voice once again.

This book allowed me insight of the person Whitney was and just not the mega superstar. How fame and the pressures of the entertainment business can destroy the innosense of a God fearing 19 year olf from E.O. New Jersey. BeBe shared his story of his dear friend and I so appreciate it. EXCELLENT BOOK!

What a great way to remember a beautiful spirit. Bebe gave you insight to "his sister" not the Whitney Houston we knew as a superstar. I am not a star struck person but since the death of Whitney I have read alot about this woman. Some good and some bad but this book undoubtly the best tribute to a wonderful person. Someone who wanted to love and to be loved!! I never knew her or met her but through this book I got a glimpse of who she was and how much she loved The Lord.
