The Whole SHeBANG: All Mixed Up

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - David McGee
Ever wonder why the songs you hear on radio seem to have a little more juice than the versions on your own CD? That's because they do -- they're mixed according to broadcast standards so that they sizzle over the airwaves. These "radio mixes" are rarely released to the public, but SHeDAISY aim to bring their fans up-to-speed with a high-octane remix of their entire 1999 platinum debut, The Whole SHeBANG. Those already on the SHeDAISY bandwagon will appreciate the brighter harmonies and edgy sound that producer Dann Huff delivers for the Utah-born and -bred Osborn sisters Kristyn, Kelsi, and Kassidy, consistent with the wide-ranging stylistic approach he and the trio ...

Those already on the SHeDAISY bandwagon will appreciate the brighter harmonies and edgy sound that producer Dann Huff delivers for the Utah-born and -bred Osborn sisters Kristyn, Kelsi, and Kassidy, consistent with the wide-ranging stylistic approach he and the trio employed on SHeDAISY's unusual Christmas album, Brand New Year. Those new to this party might appreciate this new twist on contemporary country -- the amped versions of the hit singles "Little Good-Byes," "This Woman Needs," and especially the frenetic "I Will...But" come complete with hip-hop scratching, distorted hard rock guitars, and a multilayered production that recalls ABBA's most baroque moments, while lesser-known fare, such as the dark but catchy "Punishment" and the infectious " 'Cause I Like It That Way," sounds every bit as grand as the hits, thanks to a new coat of production paint. It's not a bad way to bide one's time until SHeDAISY release their new studio album in early 2002.

    Good, but...

I love SheDaisy's albums, let me say that up front. But I was disappointed in this one. Many of the songs sounded too much like the original versions, and I much prefered the original version of ''Night to Remember'' to the version on this album. I would have liked to see an album of new music released sooner, than a remix of an album that was already awesome to begin with. I think I will stick to listening to the original ''Whole Shebang'' and the absolutely fabulous (and far superior to ''All Mixed Up'') ''Brand New Year''
