The Wide Wide World
Ellen’s father decides to leave her with her aunt in a small, rural village while taking his wife on a business trip to Europe. Separated from the love of her tender and devout mother, Ellen is mistreated by her spiteful aunt, Miss Fortune Emerson. Ellen suffers from the undeserved punishments and neglect of her aunt, yet obtains support and spiritual guidance from the children of a local minister. Follow Ellen’s journeys and adventures as she learns to have a cheerful and sweet demeanor even when mistreated and show love to others even when she herself is unloved. Illustrated

I hope you enjoy this book. When I first started reading books on my Nook Library I noticed that there are many free classics available. However the formatting is terrible and some are unreadable because of errors in the text. Therefore, I decided to start publishing quality classics that included chapter breaks, table of contents, linked chapters, and illustrations when available. Keep your eye out for inspirational stories from us, EirenikosPress.

About the Author

Susan Bogert Warner (July 11, 1819 – March 17, 1885), was an American evangelical writer of religious fiction, children's fiction, and theological works. she wrote, under the name of "Elizabeth Wetherell", thirty novels, many of which went into multiple editions. However, her first novel, The Wide, Wide World (1850), was the most popular. It was translated into several other languages, including French, German, and Dutch. Other than Uncle Tom's Cabin, it was perhaps the most widely circulated story of American authorship. Other works include Queechy (1852), The Law and the Testimony, (1853), The Hills of the Shatemuc, (1856), The Old Helmet (1863), and Melbourne House (1864).
