Overview

The heart of Judaism is a tradition of words," according to Biblical scholar Dale Salwak. He passes on this tradition in The Wisdom of Judaism, an inspirational and unique collection of Jewish quotations and proverbs.

Salwak has drawn these teachings from the inverted pyramid of Judaic tradition, which starts with the Bible at its foundation and expands with the Oral Torah or Talmud, the rabbinic stories and legends, the legal codes, the Mystical tradition, and the book of organized prayer (Siddur). From these diverse and complete sources, Salwak has created a compilation that explores the intensely religious aspect of Judaism and with sections on marriage, work, study, children, and humility offers essential Jewish wisdom for living. Also included is an afterword with quotations from contemporary Jewish thinkers and leaders, such as Golda Meir, Albert Einstein, Margaret Fishback Powers, and Rabbi Harold Kushner.

Inspiration for all denominations, The Wisdom of Judaism presents the deeply religious aspect of the Jewish tradition while remaining applicable to everyday life.
