Foo and Friends Series: What are your lawn and garden ornaments up to when no one is looking? If they hold magical spirits like most gnomes, angels, gargoyles, and foo dogs, you can bet it's something pretty important. Join Foo and his Friends on some of their important adventures as they help keep our neighborhoods safe and in tip-top shape. For read aloud and early chapter readers ages 6+.

The Wishing Well: Magical foo dogs generally work in pairs to protect us from evil spirits. Unfortunately, Foo no longer has his partner because Foo-Too was taken away to the Resting Place of Retired Foos. Having to make it on his own is bad enough, but Foo also has to get used to living in a brand new neighborhood. Thank goodness he is meeting plenty of other magical lawn and garden ornaments who can help him figure things out.

    My Niece Loves It

I got this for my son, age ten, not realizing it was too young for him in both content and reading level. I passed it on to my niece at age five who loves this book. It put a huge smile on her face when we read it together. When we finished she started reading it again herself. The words were too hard for her but she pretended to read. This is an early chapter book and would be challenging for preschoolers. I recommend it for reading aloud until kids are about the age for tackling Magic Tree House on their own.

    Magical and Relevant

The Wishing Well features a magical foo dog, aptly called Foo, moving to a new neighborhood and struggling not only to fit in but also to figure out how to survive without his partner. Foo dogs are usually found in pairs but something happened to Foo's better half, aptly named Foo-Too. I think the theme of moving to a new place and trying to figure out how to fit in is something kids can really connect with. Add in a lot of magical fun, and I think you have a winner of a kids book!
