Overview

The fifth and newest Beatrice Bailey adventure begins as the two teenage apprentice witches Beatrice and Teddy are on their way to the shopping mall. But before reaching their destination, they have a frightening encounter with a strange young man who identifies himself as Ganef, a pickpocket. It soon turns out that Ganef means no harm to the young witches. He has traveled from a town near the castle of Bailiwick, and now hopes to bring Beatrice and her friends back with him to assist in the long-running struggle against the evil sorcerer, Dally Rumpe. Before long, our heroes find themselves in strange and scary places, such as the Shaking Bridge and Thieves' Lair. Young readers who enjoyed the earlier Beatrice Bailey novels will take pleasure in this mysterious and exciting new adventure. And readers meeting Beatrice for the first time in The Witches of Bailiwick will want to read the rest of the Beatrice Bailey series. Here's an absorbing combination of mystery, magic, witchcraft, and adventure that will keep readers turning the pages.

To reverse the final part of the spell and free Bromwich from Bailiwick Castle, Beatrice and her friends face many perils together, but she must decide for herself whether to remain in the mortal world or move to the Witches' Sphere.

Editorial Reviews

KLIATT
Book five in Forrester's Beatrice Bailey adventures finds the young witch facing the last challenge in the struggle against the evil sorcerer Dally Rumpe. Once again, Beatrice is transported, along with her friends Teddy, Ollie, and Miranda, to the Witches' Sphere. This time, they must enter Bailiwick Castle, the stronghold Dally Rumpe has seized and filled with his dangerous minions. They must find Bromwich somewhere in the dungeons, and they must complete a lengthy enchantment in order to defeat the evil Rumpe. It won't be easy. Dally Rumpe is a master of disguise, and he is sure to be trying to thwart them. Furthermore, penetrating the castle without being detected is close to impossible, and the only person interested in helping them seems to be Wolf Duvall, the notorious thief who is a leading figure of the town near Bailiwick Castle. Beatrice is seriously concerned about their prospects, but she is determined to succeed. Even readers unfamiliar with earlier Beatrice Bailiwick books could enjoy this satisfying blend of mystery, magic, and adventure. It would be a good addition to any collection. KLIATT Codes: J—Recommended for junior high school students. 2005, Barron's, 228p. map., Ages 12 to 15.
