Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Greta G. Freeman
Learning to count from one to ten has never been so entertaining and imaginative for young children. Through a bouncy rhyme scheme and vibrant color, young children are first introduced to characters and setting from the classic story of The Wizard of Oz. Dorothy, her dog and a few new found friends journey to their final destination. On the way they meet good and evil along the route, and stop in the poppies for a quick nap. Another early learning resource in “The Wizard of Oz” series, the words are better read aloud to young children by an older child or adult. Each number is written numerically, spelled out, and highlighted in varying colors. The illustrations are simple lines and curves, easily recognized by young children, with obvious emotions showing on the faces of characters. The evil monkeys and wicked witch are created with just enough emotion not to be too frightening but to certainly demonstrate their unpleasant features throughout the pages. The short phrases and rhymes make it easy for young children to remember and recite for a re-reading. The extended reading and internet additions are a valuable resource for parents, teachers and caregivers, however the glossary of terms and index will probably not be useful to readers due to reading goals and intended age level. Reviewer: Greta G. Freeman; Ages 3 to 6.

Timothy Banks is an award-winning illustrator known for his ability to create magically quirky illustrations for kids and adults. He began drawing at a very early age, and soon found that he loved creating pictures for his family and friends. His work has been described as edgy, whimsical, and fun, but he likes to think of his art as his most favorite thing in the world.

Timothy creates his illustrations by using his computer, a drawing tablet and lots of imagination fueled by an overactive imagination (and sometimes ice cream). He has received honors and awards for his work from 3x3 Magazine, Creative Quarterly, Society of Illustrators Los Angeles and PLAY! Illustration. He has a Master of Fine Arts degree in Illustration from the Savannah College of Art & Design, and he also teaches fledgling art students in his spare time.

Timothy lives in sunny Charleston, SC with his wonderful wife, two beautiful daughters, and two crazy pugs.
