Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Carrie Hane Hung
A mighty tornado carries Dorothy, Toto, and her home to the Land of Oz where she meets many interesting characters including a scarecrow, tin woodsman, and lion. She follows the Yellow Brick Road in her search for the great and powerful Wizard of Oz who lives in the Emerald City. Dorothy wants to get back home to Aunt Em and Uncle Henry in Kansas and the claim is that the Wizard will help her. Along the way, she comes across some challenging situations like the poppy field, the Wicked Witch of the West, and the Hammerheads. Randall retells Baum's classic story so that children can enjoy the general essence of the story. Young readers have the opportunity to enjoy Dorothy's adventure in a format that is easier and less complex to read; each chapter is only one or two pages in length. There is a color illustration accompanying each chapter. This book is a part of the "Classic Collection" series of abridged stories; stories that have lasted for generations.
