The Wizard of Skye
Jaren Nordreiker was an honor graduate from the College of Wizardry on Frome,
but still wasn't good enough for the Sorcerer's Guild. Without Guild backing, he
would have a difficult time finding work in his chosen field. What positions there were for people not members of the Guild were either on marginal worlds, or
dangerous to those that applied for them. Both the scientific community and the
various offices of whatever Church was prevalent on those worlds were frequently
dangerous for those that worked in what most referred to as "Magic".
Skye was one world where Magic was accepted, but Guild membership wasn't.
Still, it was a job, and the only one Jaren had been able to find.
Skye was also a test of Jaren's abilities, flexibility, and courage. Not only was the weather a challenge in itself, there were other dangers he had to face, from someone working against him, to a threatened arranged marriage, to a war of magic with the Sorcerer's Guild itself.
