Great Read: Keeps the pages turning

The Wolfing by Sterling North is a very well-written book. It is about a boy named Robbie Trent, who lives on his Fathers farm in the 1870¿s. In the first chapters, Robbie crawls into a cave, only about 3ft wide, to get a wolfing. Robbie emerges, with a wolf, which is bred between a wolf, Old Three Toes, and Ring, Robbie¿s neighbor, Thure Kumlin¿s dog. As part of the deal, Robbie has to share Wolf with Inga, which he goes to school with, because the cave was on Inga¿s family farm. Ezra Trent, Robbie¿s father, allows Robbie to keep Wolf on their farm, as long as Wolf don¿t kill any animal. Their dog, Old Tessie, adopts Wolf, and cares for (sometimes scolds) him. A few months later, wolf is grown and goes on the schools New Year¿s Eve Bobsled ride. At midnight, Inga and Robbie kiss. By the time school was over, their teacher allowed them to skip 8th grade, and they plan to go to an academy together. Overall, The Wolfing keeps you wanting more information, and you can¿t get it all until you finish the book! Best of all, The Wolfing is based on a true story!

    Boyhood Favorite, Adulthood Prized Possession

Simply my all time favorite book! A wonderful story for anyone who is a fan of the late 1800's time period, stories of gorwing up in an agricultural setting, or stories involving pets. Exciting, heart-warming, simply a top-notch book from Mr. North. It will always sit in a treasured spot on my book shelf, and I will probably reread it every couple of years.
