Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Bats soar through the night sky, catch prey and roost in caves in this sturdily bound nonfiction book. It is perfect for elementary school animal reports. Information about bat diets, habitats and physiology is presented in a large text format with simple, short sentences for emerging readers. The large, colorful photographs and simple sketches complement the text. Previously released in 1996, this resource is part of the "Animal Wonder" series, all of which would be an asset for elementary school media centers. Librarians could easily bundle this book with fiction stories such as Stellaluna or Halloween theme books. A glossary and an index also provide the opportunity to introduce basic information skills. 2000 (orig. 1996), Gareth Stevens, $22.60. Ages 4 to 10. Reviewer: Wendy Pollock-Gilson
