    Being overweight can easily lead to a litany of health issues, high blood pressure only being one of them. When the DASH diet was introduces, I ignored it like most people since there is always a new fad to lose weight every year. After speaking with a few of my friends who had tried the diet, and succeeded in lowering their body weight reducing their hypertension I decided to find out more.

    That’s when I ran across this book, since I already knew a lot about high blood pressure I wasn’t expecting to find out anything new by reading this book however I was surprised to find this diet offered so many innovative ways to lose weight, reduce blood pressure and get healthy all without boring regimens or costly medications.

    The book is short enough that you can read it on your commute, but long enough that you get all the details you need to be successful. The wording is easy enough to understand that even my teen health students were able to understand the content- which says a lot believe me!

    I also liked the bonus recipes at the end of the book, I made a few and not only are they tasty, but I didn't feel deprived as some other diets leave you.

    The Wonder of DASH takes everything from the big book and condenses it down with no fillers. It does touch on high blood pressure, but it doesn’t draw it out for 3 chapters like some of the other books. The book was an easy read and well worth for the amount of information. It’s a non nonsense guide to working through the DASH diet, hitting on all the necessary key elements. What I loved was that it contains meal plans and recipes along with the basic teachings of the plan. It has everything you need to get you started on a healthier way of eating, The DASH Diet.

    I got this book with a bit of trepidation as there seem to be so

    I got this book with a bit of trepidation as there seem to be so many other ones out there talking about the DASH diet. It was a leap of faith which I am glad I took. This book is pretty straightforward and avoids a lot of medical mumbo jumbo.  It is very simple to read and grasp the meaning of what is being discussed.  Better still it reviews a few other options as well for addressing high blood pressure which is a nice touch- no solution exists in a void.  It let me make an informed decision about how to proceed and is almost a how to book on how to execute the plan.  It even includes a plan and recipes towards the end making it simple to succeed.

    Wow - who knew so much information could be packed into this lit

    Wow - who knew so much information could be packed into this little book. As one new to the world of blood pressure as I help my mother work with her high blood pressure, the book is a life send - literally. With so much information available from so many sources, understanding blood pressure has been confusing to say the least. I wish I could have found this book when she was first diagnosed because I don't think it would have scared us too badly. She uses simply terminology and explains clearly exactly what high blood pressure is, the various treatment options, specific information of the pros and cons of medications, and then a complete explanation of how diet affects HBP and how to improve simply through nutritional techniques - and the recipes she also includes at the end. Definitely a relief and an assurance to both mother and I that we can get through this together.

    Within this book is a helpful explanation of what high blood pressure is and how to tell if you have it through symptoms and tests you can do as well as how to manage it and what to expect. No worries about going into this thing blind! The diet itself isn’t even really a diet so much as a plan for hitting your food groups properly and knowing which foods within the food groups are better than others. The best part though is that the book provides recipes to get you started on your new lifestyle plan as well as a seven day meal plan so you know exactly what to eat and how to make it.
