Overview

The Wonder Weeks describes in easy-to-understand terms the incredible developmental changes and regression periods that all babies go through during the first 20 months of their lives.

Age-related fluctuations and the need for body contact and attention are all related to major and quite dramatic changes in the brains of children. These changes enable a baby to enter a whole new perceptual world and, as a consequence, to learn many new skills.

Wonder week by wonder week you’ll discover the dates in the first 20 months when all babies take ten major development leaps. Learn how to encourage each leap forward. Help your baby with the three Cs’ of fussy behavior: Cranky, Clingy and Crying. Recognize the on-set of stressful times and join your children in coping with them.

Based on the scientific- and parental-world-changing discovery of a phenomenon: all normal, healthy babies appear to be more fussy at very nearly the same ages, regression periods, and sleep less in these phases, The Wonder Weeks will help your baby, and you, get the most out of these developmental phases.

    Must Have for New Parents!

I got this as a gift and think that it should be given to every new parent as they leave the hospital with their little bundle of joy. The first few weeks will be bliss as you and your baby get to know each other, but just wait until they hit the first developmental leap at about 5 weeks. It explains why even the most happy baby is suddenly a screamer and then, again, as sweet as can be. Turns out that all babies are on very specific tracks when it comes to mental development, which is pretty cool if you think about it!

The Wonder Weeks will help save your sanity and let you know that there is nothing wrong with you or your baby - what they are going through is not just "normal," but really pretty brilliant. According to the author's research, all babies make leaps in mental development at certain, predictable times during their first 20 months. With each leap, he sees the world with a new perception and this stirs up everything he thought he knew.

Using the book as a guide, parents can be better prepared - often within a week or two - when to expect the fussy behavior that marks a new change in their baby's development. In fact, every new parent (or grandparent, or auntie) should read this book!

This is an incredibly insightful book on stages of child develop

This is an incredibly insightful book on stages of child development! Reading it helped me figure out what really was going on in the brain of my little guy and how I could help him. It provides experiences of other parents and what symptoms and leaps their little persons were going thru and emotional effect on parents. It helps to know that you are not the only person who sometimes feel like our little guys are trying out our patience. It provides with helpful games to play and activities to do to facilitate and help our little people to learn their lessons.

It was truly very helpful book to refer to when your guy is fussy and to also know WHEN to expect your fussy periods.

This book has really helped me learn what is going on with my sons development. When he gets fussy this books answers why and helps me learn how to help. The suggestions they give to help him push through the next wave of brain development work so well. I highly recommend this book! It also works well as a diary!

    MUST HAVE for all parents

It describes my daughter TO THE LETTER! She's nearing her 19th week leap. I wish I had found this book prior to her earlier leaps--would have explained a lot!
