This album by far is one of the best ones made by Megadeth. This is one that sets out to define what makes Megadeth, the dark melodic vocals and gothic lyrics (yes they crossed over into Type O Negative's territory there but knocking in the speed. Promise was one of the tracks that has the feel of Type O Negative and The Tea Party.) It makes Metallica sound like a glam metal band. I had heard the colaboration that Metallica and Megadeth did as well called ''The Hunger'' as an Mp3. It sounded like one that could go on Countdown or Youthinasia.

This is probably the worst album I have heard from a band that has continued to disappoint me since 'Youthanasia' came out. The absence of Marty Friedman, whose amazingly melodic chops were increasingly becoming the one redeeming quality of the band, is sharply felt. What's left is a barrage of mediocre material that feels and sounds eerily like somebody 'pretending' to be the Megadeth of the 'Rust in Peace' heyday but just going through the motions. It's hard to describe. The music is just dull and uninspired. Most of the songs are taken at a moderate pace--while that works for a band with a well produced downtuned heavy sound like Metallica or Machine Head, it doesn't work when the guitars are mixed thinly, as they have been since Mustaine decided to make his sound more palatable to 'the masses'. And the lyrics--god, the lyrics. Try 'You know what? You suck!' for lyrical depth. Horrible. And the most depressing thing is, these guys have had so many chances to get it right.

Good guitars, vocals (except from Burning the Bridges), bass and drums. Unfortunately not enough good songs. Only some (slow 'Promises', 'Moto Psycho', 'Dread and the Fugitive Mind' and very heavy song 'When') are good enough

I've listened to this album about a dozen times now (more than I've listened to 'Risk' in the YEARS that I've owned it. I knew from the cover that Megadeth would be going back to their roots with this album, but I think it suffered some with the loss of Friedman. Great leads and solos...but lacking in driving rhythms. The new drummer seems to have been given the go ahead to be creative because the part of this album that sticks out more than anything is the drums. Too much double bass? Maybe. The drums lend to a unique feel for this album (unique for Megadeth...maybe not so unique for Godsmack). All in all, this album rocks. Obviously it kicks the pants off of 'Risk' which I don't think ANYONE really liked...except maybe for the new generation of Metallica fans...the pansies that they are. There is something catchy in every song. While some of the hostility seems forced, it is an album worthy of the Megadeth brand...even if it's NOT another 'Rust' or 'Countdown.'

This is the best megadeth album since their great album from 92 Countdown to Extinction.I know that the best guitarist of the world Marty Friedman and the best drummer Nick Menza left the band but the new megadeth members done great work in this album. You must have this album because this is the best metal album in 2001. like i always says: ''Megadeth Rules Metallica Fools''. Buy Buy Buy 100% pure metal.

This cd shows why Megadeth are the undisputed kings of metal music. Period. There's not a bad track on here. From fast thrash to crunching heaviness. You will find it ALL here. If you're a Megadeth fan, or a metal fan at all you simply MUST own this cd. Better yet, buy two, or three, or four, or........
