Children's Literature
In this volume of the "Extreme Sports: No Limits" series, Crossingham and Kalman open up the world of extreme sports to the young reader. They begin by explaining the genre. Surprisingly, some of the sports that seem new have been around for some time, such as kayaking and surfing. Yet, even with their history, the idea of extreme sports is relatively new, first introduced in the X Games in 1995. This volume provides brief descriptions of each sport, such as when it started, whether it is an individual or team sport, and what kind of conditions someone would compete in. For the younger student and reader, this book is fun and informative. Photographs and illustrations enhance the textual information. The book ends with short biographies on some of the stars in the various extreme sports. 2004, Crabtree Publishing Company, Ages 8 to 16.—John D. Orsborn
