From the Publisher

"An exploration of what humans are and how they fit in the world.... ambitious volume... [Glover] tackles all the material in direct, uncomplicated sentences."--School Library Journal

"Draws from biology, psychology, anthropology and more to cover such diverse topics as the origin of life, the body, stress and emotions, religion, inventions, and space exploration."--Publishers Weekly

"This attractive introduction surveys the body, intellect, spirit, and culture of the human being... Glover writes accurately and appropriately for this age group.... Researchers seeking introductory materials about humans will find it helpful, but it also will draw browsers who will be attracted by its colorful format, making it a good choice for intermediate libraries... Recommended."--Book Report "More visually appealing [than Drillsman and Goodman's What's Inside the Human Body], being lavishly illustrated with photographs...as well as drawings. The scope is broader..."--VOYA

School Library Journal
Gr 7 UpThis ambitious volume is divided into four sections: evolution, anatomy and physiology, psychology, and sociology. The result is an exploration of what humans are and how they fit in the world. The section on sociology includes living together as families and societies, with a look at humanity's accomplishments and possible problems of the future. The author tackles all of this material in direct, uncomplicated sentences. However, some students may find the British measurements and spellings distracting. Fact boxes give additional information. Each page has labeled illustrations and an interesting combination of sharp, colorful photographs and diagrams. The index is comprehensive. The pulling together of the various disciplines makes this a good choice for small libraries.Martha Gordon, formerly at South Salem Library, NY
