Overview

There is a mysterious, indescribable, complex exchange that can happen in the space between you and your partner. You find each other. Your centers of gravity expand as your lives become more and more entwined. You create space for this other person to thrive while they’re doing the same for you. This creates a flow of energy in the space between you. This energy field is at the heart of marriage. It flows in the space between you, space that exists nowhere else in the universe. You can become more familiar with how this energy field works. You can develop language between you to identify what’s happening in the space between you. You can sharpen your abilities to assess it. You can act in certain ways to increase the flow. You can identify what’s blocking the flow, and then you can overcome those barriers. Years into your marriage, you can continue to intensify this energetic flow between you.

It is risky to give yourself to another. There are no guarantees, and there are lots of ways for it to fall apart and break your heart. But the upside is infinite.

Rob Bell (Love Wins) and his wife, Kristen, have a way with words in their first marriage book. The Bells use Hebrew terms like echad and zimzum, relational terms like “responsive,” “dynamic,” “exclusive,” and “sacred,” and their own intimate back-and-forth dialogue to reveal the mysteries of marriage, love, and divine connection. They also use simple sketches—stick figures, circles, and arrows—to diagram the entanglement that exists between partners, one that reflects “the divine love that flows throughout all creation.” More than anything else, the Bells wield their heartfelt words and honest voices to cheer on couples of all kinds who want to build devotion and intimacy. This is a “feel good” book, but not because it skirts the issues, but precisely because it delves so deeply into them, illuminating a path to wholeness and warmth for the sake of the world. It invites readers to love their partners and the bedazzling existence they share and create together. Married or not, read this book. Agent: Christopher Ferebee, Christopher Ferebee Literary Agency. Guideposts
“The Bells’ marriage manual... aims to help couples recognize that what they’re creating together is something energetic, light-filled and unknowably deep.”
Faith Forward
“The book, rather than giving you a five-point prescription for how to make your marriage work, instead manages to fill you with hope, possibility, and even excitement, for your own relationship.”

The Bell’s were able to relate the Bible to their marriage in a way that provides the reader a good example of the in and outs of marriage. Bring faithful to scripter and themselves have been the rock in their marriage. It’s funny, entertaining and most importantly, accurate. Two individuals do create a covenant between themselves and keeping that space between them sacred is key to a spiritually filled successful marriage filled with love and companionship.  It’s a great book to read with your significant other and start a conversation between yourselves.
