Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Carly Reagan
Follow five mouse friends, Colette, Nicky, Pamela, Paulina, and Violet (A.K.A. The Thea Sisters) to Paris as they try to solve the mystery of the stolen fashion designs. Part of the expansive "Geronimo Stilton" series, the tale is told by Geronimo's sister, Thea, for whom the group of adventurous friends is named. Each of the Thea Sisters has a unique personality profile, unfortunately stereotypical of her place of origin, and the focus of this particular installment is Colette, who is from Paris, loves the color pink, fashion, and getting manicures. Interesting educational facts about the history of Paris are conveniently worked into the storyline, some more naturally than others. The illustrations are reminiscent of a comic book or video game, brightly colored, detailed, and portraying every anthropomorphic female mouse as perfectly proportionate as a Barbie doll. The decorative and colorful fonts (think ten different fonts on one page) cater to a young generation of internet users, but were overused and overwhelmingly distracting. For children who do not generally enjoying reading but are drawn to mysteries about fashion, this is a better choice than no reading at all. Otherwise, continue shopping for stories with more depth and less stereotyping. Reviewer: Carly Reagan
