Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Renee Farrah Vess
Paulina, one of the five Thea Sisters, receives a distressed call from her home in Peru notifying her of missing family friends. Paulina and her four closest friends hop on the first plane to Peru to help solve the mystery. Once they arrive in Peru, they learn they must follow Professor Sagefur and his son Gonzalo's paw prints into the Andes Mountains in search of a treasure-filled Secret City. But when the sisters discover that they are not the only ones looking for the Secret City, they find themselves in a race against time and deceitful tricks. The playful text is filled with fabumouse puns and cheesy reminders that we are following mice on this adventure, which may test the nerves of older readers. But kids will love the colorful illustrations, maps, and fun with typography. Readers also learn about the history of Peru, commonly found animals, Machu Picchu, and about the Incas. There is a lot to look at in this vibrant "Geronimo Stilton Special Edition" book, and readers will identify with attributes found in each of the Thea Sisters. Reviewer: Renee Farrah Vess

My child loves the series! She is completely into the books and has trouble putting them down.

This series, with the text interspersed with little pictures and words in varying fonts and colors, is especially appealing for children who need to move out of the reader stage and into chapter books, but are intimidated by the idea. It is also good for ESL students, as the pictures give lots of textual clues. The stories are not exactly great literature, but they are entertaining and have reasonably good values. I haven't heard any complaints about content so far. I have been buying the series for a school library.
