To be honest... It's just too depressing for me. I try to stay on the life goes on and were happy kind of books so I just didn't like the ending I wish there was something more.

The description leaves much to the imagination and I had no real idea of what this book was about. I won't go into it because I don't want to ruin it for anyone. I didn't think I'd cry because it was so short, I didn't think I'd connect with the character's pain; but surprisingly, I did. Very well written. Only gave it 3 stars, but it was more like 3.5 stars.

Young people are often told because they are young thatthey don't know what love is. In all honesty I believe the opposite is true. They know real love because young love is uncomplicated and not usually messy. Wish it had been a bit longer with more time to get to know Hannah and Chase.

WOW! I love it when I find a book that just reaches in and rips the emotions right out of you. I had read other reviews where people said the cried thru half the story. Well I've heard that before about other books. Once in awhile it holds true, most often it does not. This time it was true. I found myself tearing up, weeping and outright sobbing during this book. Typically with young adult and many times with adult romance books, we get carbon copy happily ever after stories not that there is anything wrong with that because I do love happy endings. However this one takes you on a ride. It is certainly not what you expect going in. And that is not to say that it doesn't have a happy ending. I believe it does... just a completely different one than you'd expect.
This is a novella so less than a 100 pages. Normally novellas leave me wanting more but with this one I am not sure that I would've been able to handle a longer book. Great story!
I have been wondering what can I possible say about this story that will be helpful for other readers, and the only thing that comes to mind is to say is READ IT. I am sure this story will touch everyone in a different way, because well... we are all different, but I can guarantee that it will be a story easy to relate to. I have to admit this book made me cry several times (tear-Jerker story for sure). I had to take breaks often because it just was so touching, so real. It is very easy to relate to the emotions throughout the story. This book truly submerges you into the character's emotions. Some readers might think this book is about love, loss, heartbreak, survival and everyone will be correct. It is about life. It is about living. It is about surviving and living through the gifts and obstacles life throws at us. I love the fact that at the very end (this is not a spoiler), it provides enough information that would help others. I can't wait to read what else this author has to offer. Brina Courtney... thanks for sharing your work and for reaching to help others with your story. Good Job!!!

I went into reading Brina’s novella with no knowledge of what it’s about. (Aside from it being New Adult contemporary.) I’m so happy I did! Because of the length of shorter works, I’m always hesitant to review them. There’s not much you can say without spoiling the entire thing!
Hannah and Chase are young, but completely devoted to one another. It’s the sort of love we imagine and hope to one day have. It is perfect. Typically that would be dull, but Courtney manages it so well that you can’t help but fall a bit complacent in this happy place.
Then comes along major twist comes from out of nowhere and shattered that “happy place”. Their Promise captures that pain so well. I’m a super sensitive person – one of those that can’t watch some commercials on TV without tearing up (or, you know, sobbing in some cases).
I’ve always lived with the assumption that a truly fabulous book (or novella) will bring out a variety of emotions. It will make you feel. Courtney’s Their Promise fits in that category flawlessly.
I received my copy of Their Promise from the author in exchange for my honest opinion.

I have been a Brina Courtney fan ever since I read the first Chapter of reveal ( #1 in the Crypid tales series ), and then wanted to bow at her feet when I finished Capture. So it's no surprise that I was jumping on the bandwagon to check out her first YA contemporary!
Now.. I am not a contemporary fan to be honest. Mostly just because... well it's too.. real! I tend to be an emotional person and get really sucked into the stories and end up far too attached.
BUT this was Brina's writing and I had to give it a shot.
Cried, glared at the pages, shook my fists. And wished for more!
I will always hesitate when opening a contemporary book. But I have faith now that if Brina Courtney is writing it, I won't be disappointed, and all the emotions will be well worth it.
It is a heartbreaking story that will have you totally invested in the characters. The only downfall is that it is a novella! I want more Brina! MORE haha. I cannot wait to see what else this Author has in store for us readers. Whether it be paranormal or contemporary, I will be waiting in line.
It’s not often that a book has a description as short as this book does. It’s just three sentences, but those sentences tell so much. The description sums up a key moment in the book, but there is also so much more before and after that moment that adds to the readers enjoyment.
This novella was recommended to me by another great author of contemporary YA and I’m glad I didn’t hesitate to buy it. I started it in the morning and had to force myself to put it down every now and then to get “real world things” done. I was hooked from the beginning by the very well written romance between the main character Hannah and the love of her life Chase.
When I got near the halfway mark in this book I had a clear prediction of where I saw the story going. Then it was shattered completely without much warning at all. I was completely caught off-guard by the major plot twist that occurred and I couldn’t have asked for anything more. It’s hard to shock me like this, I applaud the author here.
From there the story continues, sometimes at a slower pace because not as much happens. This isn’t a terrible thing. The story needs to slow down and have nothing happen in order to convey just what’s going on in Hannah’s life. I can’t talk too much on that in order to avoid spoiling too much. Spoilers would be very easy to give out for this story, so I’m trying to be very vague. Especially vague for the second half.
For this second half, unlike the first, I couldn’t really make a clear prediction of the ending. There were so many possible outcomes, but I was happy in the end. It was what I wanted, especially out of the more severe situations I could have thought up.
This was a great novella to pick up. It wasn’t the happiest at time, to put it kindly. There are many emotions that get played with throughout the book. Be ready to smile, laugh, and cry with this one. I mean that in the best way possible.
