I have used this book in teaching graduates the theories of counseling. It is written in a very easy to understand and interactive manner. Gerald Corey has done another excellent job! If you have a choice, Choose this book

Great detailed book. It compliments a good lecture very well. I only had trouble understand a few things straight from the book but otherwise a keeper!

Great book! Includes many of the theories in counseling at the graduate level. Detailed analysis of each theory and case studies are included.

The author of this book did a great job pulling the information together. I found that it was easy to read, easy to follow, and detailed the theories in a way that was NOT BORING! This is a book that I plan to add to my reference pile for future use in my counseling profession.

This is one of few text books that gives great detail into the each theory, yet keeps it simple for students to understand. Corey writes this book in a manner that makes you feel as though you are in a counseling session with him. The case of Stan is a great example which helps students understand how to apply the theories in practice. This is one of the best text books I have used in class. It will be a great resource tool for future classes.

Gerald Corey is Professor Emeritus of Human Services at California State University at Fullerton; a Diplomate in Counseling Psychology, American Board of Professional Psychology; a licensed psychologist; a National Certified Counselor; a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (Counseling Psychology); a Fellow of the American Counseling Association; and a Fellow of the Association for Specialists in Group Work. Dr. Corey teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in group counseling, as well as courses in experiential groups, the theory and practice of counseling, and ethics in counseling. He is the author or co-author of 15 counseling textbooks currently in print and numerous journal articles. Along with his wife, Marianne Schneider Corey, Dr. Corey has conducted group counseling training workshops for mental health professionals at many universities in the United States, Canada, Mexico, China, Hong Kong, Korea, Germany, Belgium, Scotland, England, and Ireland. They received the Association for Specialists in Group Work's Eminent Career Award in 2001. Dr. Corey earned his doctorate in counseling from the University of Southern California.
