Overview

The interactive cats are back, but not for long! They’re eager to go off to see the world. So will someone please help them get out of the book?

Our lovable feline friends Tiny, Moonpie, and Andre have returned, and this time they’re filled with the spirit of adventure: they want to go off to explore the world! They have their suitcases packed and are ready to set out, but can’t get out of the book. They try pushing their way out and jumping their way out, but nothing seems to work. Finally, they get a brilliant idea: they decide to wish themselves out! But they’re going to need help. Will it work? Are you missing them yet?

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Ken Marantz and Sylvia Marantz
Tiny, Moonpie, and Andre, the marvelously amusing felines from There Are No Cats in This Book, greet us here on the cover, with only their eyes peering through the holes in the jacket. But they are packing to leave, and begin their way out of the book. A fold-out "PUSH!" doesn't work, however. Neither does an eye-popping pop-up as they try to jump out. Next is wishing themselves out, while asking for our help. Amazingly, as we see from a postcard attached to the next page, that seems to have worked. But a "Meow?" at the bottom of the next double page announces their return to "home sweet home." And because we have waited there for them, they have brought us a neat surprise. Imaginative graphics, brushed black outlines and colored ink bodies produce in a loose abstract style the trio of adventurers and then the score of others. A suitcase is the only prop for the two-page pop-up. Do compare the contrasting jacket and cover and the front and back end pages for more fun. Reviewer: Ken Marantz and Sylvia Marantz
Kirkus Reviews
Schwarz's follow-up to the well-received, interactive There Are Cats in this Book (2008) falls short of the mark. Tiny, Moonpie and André are back, but from the get-go, they're packed and itching to escape the narrative's confines to "see the world." They try pushing, jumping and wishing themselves out, with corresponding interactive pages that fold out, pop up and invite readers—addressed throughout—to help wish the feline trio "out into the world." Three ensuing double-page spreads—nearly a quarter of the volume—depict, against dingy white space, respectively: pale spangles of dematerializing-cat-shaped stars, a small, attached postcard to the reader and a word-bubble: "Meow." That alluring world appears only as a brick-walled alley on the postcard. The slight story arc and all those nearly-blank spreads undercut the momentum—a shame, given the illustrator's vibrant way with brush and ink. The final two spreads deliver a passelof cats into the mix—"They all wanted to meet you!"—but it's too little, too late for readers, who are much easier to spring from books than cats.
