Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Judy Silverman
The authors of this book are eleven young people, aged between 8 and 19, who have been diagnosed with a "catastrophic illness" -usually some form of cancer. As they deal with the prospect of their own deaths, they meet in groups and write and draw pictures about themselves, their illnesses, their families and their fears. The book is a collection of their works. It's awe-inspiring. The kids are real kids, and the possibly helpful hints that their editors slip in, and let the kids respond to, are just that-possibly helpful. This could be a good book for kids who are catastrophically ill; there's a ray of hope, but the reality of death isn't ignored.
