Harding provides a parallel account of history in the US where he gives voice to the Black struggle for freedom absent from traditional historical analysis. Harding relates what Blacks were doing in their attempt to survive in a place and time where the idea of equality and freedom did not apply to their status. However, Blacks were educating themselves, discussing the politics of race in America, seeking ways to end their oppression in America and trying to find ways to leave America. Harding provides a powerful account of the many ways that Black resistance to oppression and slavery began from the baracoons of Africa to the Civil Rights Movement (and continues today). This is an important book that should be a part of any history class.

- The best work on the struggle for freedom I have read. - Mr Harding gose deeper, giving an understanding of now only WHAT happaned but HOW and WHY. - Mr Harding brings the heart and souls of the struggle AND the people who fought it to life. - Their voices once still ,are HEARD and FELT throughout the pages. - Some well known, some unknown and many nameless faceless souls who found the strength, courage, to fight for their Freedom. Are finally given the recongnition and the space to tell thier story. - While their fight began Hundreds of years ago, the battle is yet to be won. - Even today there is still so much hate, intolerence. - Cant we see that we teach our children, through our own actions. -- Stop the hate! - Teach our children : * SHOW them love, tolerance, * TEACH them * GIVE them the tools, the knowledge, and the power to CHANGE the way things are.. and how they WILL be. Its Time...
