There’s a Puma in the Kitchen and Other Unexpected Tales of Motherhood
My collection of essays, “There’s a Puma in the Kitchen and Other Unexpected Tales of Motherhood,” provides a glimpse into all of the things I expected about pregnancy and motherhood… and all the things I actually found awaiting me. You will read about my broken boobies, my inability to let my youngest daughter sleep through the night and, oh yeah, that time I dented my oldest daughter’s forehead.

About the Author

Heather J. Kelley received her Bachelor's degree in Journalism from the University of Florida in 1997. Because she was not ready to face the premise of working in an environment that did not guarantee summers off and a week for spring break, she continued her studies by pursuing a Master's degree in political science. She worked in political advertising for six years and three campaign cycles, starting as a Director of Operations before being promoted to Vice President. Around the time that she was tasked with trying to find the ugliest frame by frame images of a female opponent, it occurred to her that she might not be elevating the debate and began to dream of a different path. In 2005, Heather decided to leave politics, but not the issues important to her. She now helps to manage a research program which seeks to understand how nurses contribute to quality patient care. In her spare time, Heather wrangles two daughters and tries to be a serious writer. She has recently completed her first novel (which she is now editing) and has published a collection of essays called, "There's a Puma in the Kitchen and Other Unexpected Tales of Motherhood" on Kindle publishing.

Heather lives in Pennsylvania with her husband, Ed and two daughters, Chloe and Amber.
