Warm, Witty.....5 Stars All the Way!

When I first heard about There¿s Always Plan B, one of the first books to be released under Harlequin¿s The Next Novel, I wondered if this book would be romantic. Well it is and's a story and exploration of a beautiful woman about to turn 40 who finds herself alone with a teenage daughter to raise. Carly Spencer has been 'dumped' by her husband to go in search of himself and is left to pick up the pieces. She decides to relocate to her family home and business, a B&B called Chatsworth-by-the-Sea to assist her mother in rescuing the family home and B&B. Carly decides to use her skills as a one-time event planner to restore the business, using Mary the fabled resident ghost as a draw to increase revenues and pay the mortgage. Then, who should appear but tall, dark, handsome, and sexy Adam a ghost-buster who threatens to ruin the B&B rep and puts Carly's hormones into overdrive. .If one man isn¿t enough in her life, Carly also runs into her old teacher from high school days. He¿s a little older than Carly and becomes interested in her and asks her out as well. Two men interested in her, a failing B&B, a teenage daughter and a missing ghost makes this particular book a great read and one you won¿t want to miss. There¿s Alway¿s Plan B is not only entertaining but it's also an exploration into relationships. Susan Mallery explores .mother/daughter relationships, friendship versus love interests, and self-esteem and ¿starting over¿.

    You Go Girl!

Ms Mallery has created a wonderful story of what happens to the very soon to be age 40 heroine, Carly Spencer, when her Plan A of life falls apart. Plan A was a good life too -living in Santa Monica CA, soon to be ex-husband was a successful executive and they had a happy teenage daughter but now she needs to put Plan B forward. Carly and her unhappy, mouthy 15 year old daughter, Tiffany, are moving to Carly's childhood home Chatsworth-by-the-Sea, a Bed & Breakfast on the coast north of San Francisco. Carly has the best memories of the B&B and the resident ghost a young woman named Mary. Mary was Carly's special friend for all those years! Plan B is working with her mother (Oh, Joy!) for the next 2 years than Mom,Rhonda, will retire to Las Vegas. Carly doesn't find the B&B or Rhonda is the best of shape. Rhonda is just so overwhelmed by the work necessary to manage the B&B. Pushing Plan B forward takes lots of work with both a crabby mother and child. Carly needs distractions but not the younger than her ghost-buster who has her hormones in overdrive or her wonderful math teacher from high school who she now sees isn't that much older and wants friendship and maybe more. We get to watch Carly take it all on! This is one of the new Harlequin line's Next and I'm ready to read more of it too. The heroines will be a little older and going into the next stage of their lives.
