The only reason I bought this box set is because I am needing to find out what the songs sound like. I joined a musical group who are playing this style of music, and most of the arrangements are from Sinatara recordings. Ok, that said here is what I think. This is a mix of studio and live performance recordings. The quality is a good as it gets on vintage radio recordings and clean master tapes. This is your grandfathers technology! However, the performance are excuted at a very high level and are flawless. The recordings are not rehabilitated remastered, they are what they are. It is not recorded from a record. There is no needle stactic that is heard. It also does not sound like they used a noise gate to eliminate the needle sounds. This is also a snap shot of why Sinatara became such a figure in the legitimate show business industry. He never stumbled over the material, and it does sound like the material was rehersed to perfection. There is not one string being played on the cusp of being out of tune. No bad horn sounds. Sinatara, for his part is clean and on pitch. The tunes them selves are the full length version arrangements. On most of the recordings of these songs the full introductions are not included, but here they are. I never knew that there was an introduction to "Tea for Two." I never knew there were even words to it,either. So, if you want to hear the song in what must be either the full version, or with part of the context the song was in the stage show it came out of. I had no idea that the song "The House That I live In" was a patriotic song. It is clearly that from the introduction that actually give the story of the song. "Blue Skies", in my mind was written by Willie nelson, but I found out this is an Irvin Berlin tune,I had no idea that was the case. So, the box set is what it claims is. A snap shot of kind and qauality of music that Sintara took into his performance from the musical's he liked, or acted in.
