Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Most children want to be liked, have friends, and be part of a group. In this early reader the emphasis is on friends, who they are and what you can do with them. Some friends you meet at school. You might play games with them or read a book or just sit and talk. Friends might also be relatives like your sisters and brothers, and even pets can be included in the circle of friends. Perhaps you have a hobby or special interest like music, and that offers another opportunity to make friends. Another great way to make friends is to be part of a sports team, and then you do have shared goals and dreams. Friends share, listen to you, and try to be helpful when you are sad or share in your happiness when something wonderful has happened. Unlike many readers of this type, the vocabulary words are listed on the opening page and the closing page includes several notes to adults about the content and focus of the book and a suggested activity. Simple declarative sentences on crisp white pages accompanied by photographs of children from a variety of ethnic backgrounds make this an attractive book. This is a level "F" book in the "My World" series. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
