Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
The forthcoming 20th anniversary reunion of the cast of the classic film Tristan and Isolde in the U.K. provides the backdrop for Linnéa’s extravagantly romantic first in a new movie mystery series. The three leads—brilliant actor/director Pierce Hall as King Mark, young star Peter Dalton as Tristan, and beautiful discovery Anastasia Day as Isolde—formed a romantic triangle that mirrored their characters. When Anastasia and screenwriter Bruce Amerman tote up the list of former cast members who have died since the filming, they find too many suspicious deaths. Threats and more deaths occur after Leah Hall, Pierce’s director daughter, joins the discussion. Skillfully interwoven flashbacks detail the filming and the professional and personal jealousies as well as emotional entanglements that roiled the cast. The romance and picturesque settings in Scotland and England compensate for a solution that strains credulity. Linnéa is the coauthor with B.K. Sherer of the Eden Trilogy (Chasing Eden, etc.). Agent: Eric Myers, the Spieler Agency. (Apr.)

Unable to resist the allure of an anniversary, a movie studio plans to showcase the stars for a 20-year rerelease of a 1980s movie blockbuster, Tristan and Isolde. Sadly, the film's two young leads, Anastasia and Peter, have never quite recovered from the epic experience. Widowed Anastasia lives in a castle and suffers from agoraphobia, and Peter has seemingly disappeared. More troubling is that key members of the cast and crew have been dying at an unusually high rate over the years, and it doesn't look innocent. Three of the survivors—including Anastasia—determine to figure out who has it in for them before they themselves are eliminated. VERDICT With its requisite love triangle, jealousies, and dysfunctional families, this delicious confection from veteran thriller writer Linnéa (Chasing Eden) oozes romantic suspense. Movie buffs will enjoy the backstory and romance readers the tangled romantic web. To boot, there are plenty of red herrings and creepy suspects for mystery fans. Darken the lights, bring out the popcorn, and enjoy.

"Linnea branches out with a new Movie Mystery series. Flashing between the past and present, the story charts events and relationship dramas that surrounded the filming of the movie Tristan and Isolde, some of which have lead to murder. Great characterization and twisty surprises add up to an excellent mystery.  For Anastasia Day Huntington, the widowed Duchess of Esmonde, the upcoming re-release of her debut film, Tristan and Isolde, is a bittersweet reminder of things lost.  However, upon learning of the sudden death of a friend and former crew member, Anastasia suddenly realizes the number of those associated with the film who have met untimely deaths is frighteningly high. Could some of these deaths actually have been murders? Concerned and fighting agoraphobia, Anastasia reaches out to an old friend, screenwriter Bruce Amerman. When Bruce accepts her premise regarding the deaths, they must figure out the killer’s identity before the gala reunion!" —Romantic Times Book Reivew

"Linnea delivers a romantic suspense novel in which the fatal triangle that ensnared Tristan, Isolde and King Mark is reflected in that which ensnare the three movie stars, making the two tragedies seem equally inevitable."  —Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine

"Behind the magic delights of the movies lie passions that lead to murder.  The characters will haunt you long after you turn the final page."—Rebecca Cantrell, award-winning author of the Hannah Vogel novels

"A haunting fairy tale of filmmaking...It gets The Movies right - from glittery surface to sinister undertow."—Wesley Strick, screenwriter of Cape Fear and Nightmare on Elm Street

Although These Violent Delights has a slow start, the novel is full of love, murder, and betrayal, enough to keep you on your toes. The intermittent flashbacks really will you decide whether or not you sympathize with Anastasia, the main character.

As a mystery genre, it has an unexpected and an overall fulfilling ending. (I did not expect the mastermind of the murders to be that certain character!) The sheer amount of characters can confuse the story, especially at the beginning.

I love a good mystery, and a great romance, and this book was both! The author had me guessing "who dun it" from the first page. I loved how it traveled back and forth in time--getting to know the characters in their prime , and to be on the set when they were making their classic film, was completely engaging--and would have been, even if you weren't looking for clues.

If you want a first rate mystery, or to fall in love with a group of characters, give THESE VIOLENT DELIGHTS a try.
