Experience a new kind of terror. Meet Simon. This highly intelligent and deceptively charming physical therapist loves to touch people: “Inflicting pain through aggressive manipulation helped the healing process.” Simon has a secret calling. He believes that God has given him absolute authority to purify his unholy victims through a ritual that ends in grisly crucifixions. Driven by twisted religious beliefs and guided by his dead mother, very much alive in his subconscious mind, Simon abducts “chosen ones” and holds them captive in a Room of Redemption. There, the victims helplessly await deliverance.

In this breakneck-paced, exquisitely horrific thriller, Detective Sami Rizzo is assigned to head a task force investigating serial killings in San Diego — brutal murders unlike anything the city has ever seen. Detective Rizzo urgently yearns to solve the case and gain the respect of her male colleagues, but her determination to apprehend the killer on her own clouds her thinking. When Simon outsmarts Rizzo, determined to make her his next victim, she must employ all her resources — both physical and intellectual — to beat the villain at his own game.

Meet the Author

Daniel Annechino’s passion has always been fiction, particularly thrillers. He wrote several novels early in his writing career, but it wasn’t until he authored "They Never Die Quietly” that he fulfilled his goal as a novelist. A native of New York, Annechino now lives in San Diego with his wife, Jennifer. He loves to cook, enjoys a glass of vintage wine, and spends lots of leisure time on the warm beaches of Southern California. He is currently working on a sequel titled “Resuscitation”, which he promises will be even more chilling than “They Never Die Quietly”.

    Taut thriller

Sami Rizzo made a promise to her father on his death-bed - a promise that she would work in law enforcement, and become a detective. With dedication, she achieved this goal, despite being a single mother to a two-year-old daughter. She is the only woman on the Homicide squad. She and her partner, Alberto "Al" Diaz, are involved in a difficult murder investigation, and the bodies are piling up. The women are crucified, sexually assaulted, and have their hearts removed before being dumped on the steps of local churches. The body count is rising, and her boss is getting antsy. She has been given until Friday to solve the case. Will she be able to find the killer? Or will she become the next victim?

I should point out that this is not a mystery - the reader knows almost from the start who the murderer is. The story is told from multiple points-of-view, so again the reader is kept in the loop much more than anyone in the story. This is a suspense/thriller - the fun of the reading is in watching how Rizzo tries to untangle the clues and find the killer, who the reader knows is closer than she thinks. This is rough stuff, and the reading of it is not for the faint-of-heart, but fans of thrillers and suspense novels should enjoy this book, which maintains a high-level pace and provides good character development.
