Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Scruffy, unpretentious, and middle-aged private investigator Toby Peters ( Smart Moves ) appears again in a firmly and conscientiously established 1940s Los Angeles. Working out of a miniscule office in the Farraday Building and an untidy boardinghouse room, Peters boxes for exercise and always wears slightly mismatched clothes. Searching for his client's wife, who supposedly ran away with Peter Lorre, Peters soon finds himself suspect in the murder of Pete R. Lowry, a Lorre look-alike. Peters narrates in a conversational manner, and while there are some weird characters, actual events remain plausible. For series and nostalgia fans. REK
