Think Like an Eagle: At Work with a Wildlife Photographer

by Kathryn Lasky, Jack Swedberg, Christopher G. Knight

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 4-7-- In a highly readable photo essay, Lasky introduces wildlife photographer Swedberg, shown at work in Knight's well-composed full-color shots. In addition, well-placed, sharply focused, and often dramatic pictures show what Swedberg has captured on film. Readers follow him throughout the seasons as he pursues specific animal subjects in several U. S. locations: Quabbin Reservoir for bald eagles in winter, beavers in spring, and deer in fall; Florida's Sanibel Island for wading birds; Corkscrew Swamp for alligators; and Alaska, again for bald eagles, his favorite topic. The book's chatty and informal tone will attract and hold the interest of even those children not drawn to the subject initially. As a bonus, numerous fascinating facts about animal behavior are included. Readers will come away with a sense of awe for the natural world, as well as a feeling for the patience and dedication it takes to pursue a career in nature photography. A unique book with many curricular uses. --Ellen Fader, Westport Public Library, CT
