Liza is really excited about third grade! She is going to have a great year in Mrs. Lane's class, partying on every holiday, sitting next to her best friend Heather, and going to the library with the class every week. However, all of this changes in an instant when Mrs. Lane announces that her class is over-crowded and Liza is going to have to switch into the other third grade class, the class taught by mean Mrs. Rumford. This book follows the feelings and events of Liza's life as she adjusts to her new class. Her disappointment is extreme, affecting her mood in and out of school. Struggles with friends and family ensue and Liza spends most of this book feeling terrible. Things begin to change when she makes a new friend who inspires her to become a better reader. Overall, this book leaves the reader feeling disheartened. Peer politics, sibling rivalry, and teacher disrespect are taken to an extreme, as well as the rude language of a third grader.
