The compilers of this new reference are co-directors of Third World Resources, one of the most complete clearinghouses on Asia, Africa, and Latin America materials in the United States. The Directory, which will be updated every two years, pulls together outstanding print and audiovisual listings previously published in the organization's regional and theme directories. Entries are arranged by country and topic, with a special emphasis on social and economic justice issues and grass-roots movements. While not comprehensive, the listings include resources from many smaller publishers and less well known writers who are often overlooked in similar volumes. Each entry is adequately annotated, and five indexes allow ready reference to authors, subjects, and titles. An extensive list of the names and addresses of organizations involved in Third World development is especially useful, since students and researchers frequently request this information. Recommended for academic and larger public libraries and others with regular requests for Third World materials.-Bill Rau, Takoma Park, Md.
Providing access to the stories behind the headlines, this guide to print, audiovisual, and organization resources on Africa, Asia & Pacific, Latin America & Caribbean, and the Middle East contains some 2,500 annotated entries and a directory of 2,300 international nongovernmental organizations. Organization is in two sections, the first by region or country, and the second by topic, 39 in all, among them: agriculture, education, environment, human rights, labor, refugees, science and technology, and women. Indexing is by organization, individual, title, geographic area, and subject. An updated edition in both hard copy and computer disk formats is scheduled for spring 1996 and every two years thereafter. Quarterly updates are available by subscription. Annotation c.
