Book eight in the New York Times and USA Today bestselling Rose Gardner Mystery series.

Rose Gardner has survived plenty of close scrapes in the past, but her latest bit of trouble has landed her in the Fenton County holding cell on trumped up charges. The most powerful man in southern Arkansas, J.R. Simmons, is determined to put her behind bars for good and destroy everything she holds dear, including her boyfriend, Mason, and her friend Skeeter, reigning king of the Fenton County crime world. In a stunning betrayal, it seems as if J.R.'s son, Rose's ex-boyfriend, might have turned tail and joined his father.

But Rose doesn't have to face this fight alone. Her tight-knit group of friends is dedicated to helping her figure out--and foil--J.R.'s plan for ruining her, Mason, and Skeeter. But even with their support and the use of her special power, Rose is at a disadvantage. J.R. is a criminal mastermind who has been using his money, power, and web of influence to hide his conspiracies for years. How can she hope to find solid evidence implicating someone who's mastered the art of not getting caught?

Time is running out, and soon Rose realizes that reassuming her role of the Lady in Black might be her only chance at ferreting out the evidence that will save them all. In so doing, she will risk not only her life, but the possibility that her secret identity will be unveiled to all.

Denise has outdone herself I have cried yelled and left with an overwhelming need for a drink! Rose has grown so much since the first book but I Love who she is becoming because I know there is so much more that we will find out in the next installment I CAN'T WAIT,!!!

All aboard the love train! Just when you think Denise Grover Swank cannot possibly out-do herself…she goes and does it time and AGAIN! Thirty-Five and a Half Conspiracies brings together just about everything the series to a head. It’s fast-paced, stressful, and, at times, heart wrenching. For me, this installment’s theme was facing the consequences of your actions. By the end, even everyone who wins still loses…and I love it! The meat of this book is about publicly outing JR Simmons as the monster he is, while trying to prove Rose’s innocence. As always with the Rose Gardner Mysteries, there’s layer upon layer of passion, sub-plots, and deceit. Rose as the Lady in Black is in full bloom and proves to be an unstoppable force. Neely Kate reveals more about her very colorful past and I’m VERY eager to learn more. I’ve got my own theory about her, but this isn’t the place for theories! Joe sets out to take down his father. Mason’s life is still very much in danger. Skeeter Malcom is a very welcome anti-hero with a heart of gold. Kate and Hilary are still as trustworthy as the average politician who promises you the world and gives you nothing. Not only is there a mysterious benefactor for Rose, there’s also a shady stalker. Why did I call my review the love train? It’s simple: everyone (including the bad guys adoration of her Lady in Black persona) loves Rose. She’s got no less than four men desperate for her in one way or another. My only two gripes are 1) The tidbits we’re fed about Violet, Hilary, and Kate are STILL dangling in the air with no resolution at the end of this installment; and 2) While JR has been captured, little happened to solve the smaller mysteries that make up the mythology of the series. At the end, I still wanted more, even though this is the longest novel of the series. However, that’s entirely okay! I trust Denise’s vision for the series. I am certain that the 9th novel with be every bit as action packed and satisfying. Finally…both #TeamJoe and #TeamMason need to brace themselves. ;) Thirty-Five and a Half Conspiracies is one heck of a fast-paced adventure that you cannot miss. I’m sure the six-month wait for Thirty-Six and a Half Motives will be well worth it. Even with my gripes, they’re not enough to take away from what is most definitely a satisfying five star read. Thank you, Dense! *****FIVE STARS*****

Another amazing Rose story! After the cliff hanger in 34.5, I was more than ready to find out how Rose gets herself out of her current mess. She might have three men claiming to want to protect and save her, but it's really all Rose. Her brains, strong will, and fierce desire to protect the ones she loves stood out above all. It's hard to believe Rose is the same woman she was in 28.5 Wishes. I can't wait to read the next one!

I loved this book! Rose has grown so much as this series continues! I was actually speechless when I finished this book last night! This book has so much going on that you will not want to miss and won’t be able to put down once you start. I will be going back to the beginning and re-reading all of them as so much happened here. This has to be my favorite of this series and I cannot wait for the next one!

Wow. Just, Wow....I loved this book - it picks up right where 34.5 left off and throws you into a whirlwind story that will have you flying through the pages as quickly as possible to see what happens next. The author made me feel like I was experiencing the tale along with the characters and feeling their emotions. If you are a fan of the Rose Gardner series, you will love this book. And if you're not, do yourself a favor and start the series with the first book You will be glad you did.

Wrecked by the Best You don’t finish a Rose Gardner book without needing some time to process what you’ve just flown through at astronomical speed. In fact, you don’t finish reading ANY book written by Denise Grover Swank without immediately thinking, “How soon can I start re-reading?” The opening line accurately sums up where we left off with Thirty-Four and a Half Predicaments. Thirty-Five opens with, “They say sitting in a jail cell can make you reevaluate your life.” I dare say Rose is taking being falsely accused of hiring Daniel Crocker to murder her mother FAR better than I would. I’d probably be curled in a corner hyperventilating. The web J.R. Simmons carefully laid for Rose has finally ensnared Rose and left her at the mercy of a corrupt Fenton County judicial system. Carter Hale is the only attorney willing to take her case, and even he had to be “convinced” to do so. The thing about Rose is that she’s no wallflower any longer. This woman is a force to be reckoned with as she takes matters into her own hands and sets out to find proof she’s not only innocent, but that J.R. Simmons is a snake needing to have his head cut off … with a dull shovel … after being repeatedly bludgeoned for fun. Sorry, lost in the moment there. Rose’s pondering of, “How could one evil man destroy so many lives?” is spot on - and it’s time for J.R. to realize she is NOT weak nor is she at his mercy. And that leads to another favorite quote, “We're all tangled up in the same ball of yarn, Carter Hale. I save one of us, I save us all.” I’m not spoiling anything when I mention another aspect of how very much Rose has evolved since Twenty-Eight and a Half Wishes. The show of love and support by those who’ve come to love her touched me so much. Another favorite and powerful quote was Rose’s realization how much she’s loved - “I’d gone from friendless and lonely to bursting at the seams with people who loved and cared about me.” That line right there … no words! And can I say how much I love Jed? He’s a hero on multiple levels, and there’s no way I can imagine her being Lady without Jed there watching her back. Swank knows how to ensnare your emotions and take you on a roller coaster ride. In the same chapter you can laugh, cry, and rage only to be left frantically flipping to the next page to see what will happen next. I honestly don’t think roller coaster ride even does justice to how this story progresses all the way up to the last page. I’d say it reaches g-force, and I will be waiting to find out where Thirty-Six and a Half Motives takes us, where Denise takes us, where ROSE takes us. It’s time for the Lady in Black to make another appearance. Look out J.R., Rose Gardner is coming for you!

Gobsmacked! Gutted! Speechless! These are just a few of the feelings I had while reading this book. Denise has turned into an author that I will proudly wake up at midnight in order to read her latest release. I waited for months for this book to come out and I was not disappointed. After Rose is arrested, by ex-boyfriend Joe nonetheless, her friends gather around her to offer her support and love. Throughout the series, Rose has turned into the caregiver and the person who sees the good in almost everyone. She is the one who is always there for you no matter what and even if you don’t deserve it (I’m looking at you Violet). I’m not ashamed to say that I did get the warm fuzzies when Rose’s ragtag team of friends allowed her to be the one who did the leaning. Even with all the resources at their disposable it seems almost impossible for them to take down J.R. How can Skeeter help Rose when their friendship has been a secret from Mason? How will Mason react if he discovers Rose is the Lady in Black? Mason’s views on the world have changed in the last few months and he no longer sees everything as black or white, right or wrong, but can he forgive these lies and betrayal? I do find Rose to be a bit hypercritical because she is gutted when Joe betrays her and frustrated when Mason won’t tell her what he is working on. Yet Rose is doing a fair amount of betraying and secret keeping herself. Mason cannot tell Rose everything because his job requires confidentiality. Rose does not tell Mason everything because she is scared of losing him. There is a big difference in their motives. Saying that, I can sympathize with Rose on this. It might have been easier to tell Mason everything about Skeeter and the Lady in Black in the beginning, but once Rose fell into that spiral of dishonesty, it was even harder to stop. Readers will have many opinions on the events in this book. It is very polarizing and some may love it and some may hate it. To me, that is what makes a book and a series so successful. To garner emotions in the reader and create debates on the book is the mark of a truly gifted author.

Thirty-Five and a Half Conspiracies is book eight in the Rose Gardner Mystery series by Denise Grover Swank. I have loved this series from the first page of the first book. After finishing this book, I have one question…Who is that woman and what have you done with my Rose? You are going to meet a new Rose Gardner in this book. She is a little tougher, more street smart, and a little harder around the edges. There are still little bits of the sweet, innocent Rose we first met in book one. But our Rose has changed. It will be up to you to decide if you like this new and improved version or not. The book starts right up where the previous book left off. Rose is in jail on false charges who we all know were instigated by the evil J.R. Simmons. They are fast tracking Rose’s case because the judge is also in J.R.’s pocket. If this goes to trial, there is no way she will be found innocent. Carter Hale is doing all he can do to get her out on bail. But his resources are limited as well. Even at the worst moment of Rose’s life, though, she has her friends supporting her. “I’d gone from friendless and lonely to bursting at the seams with people who loved and cared about me. Here I was sitting at the defense table wearing an orange jumpsuit, but I was luckier than most people in the world.” Once Rose does get out on bail, she takes things into her own hands to prove her innocence. “We’re all tangled up in the same ball of yarn, Carter Hale. I save one of us, I save us all.” Skeeter Malcolm is in hiding so Rose turns to Jed for help. She knows she is going to have to bring back her alter ego, the Lady in Black, to get things moving. I want to say here that I love Jed. I thought perhaps he had fallen for Rose but other reasons are revealed for the loyalty he feels towards her. Reasons that made me love him all the more. “I still saw the Lady in Black as our best, and maybe only, chance to save all of us. When I performed my role as the Lady in Black, there was always a separation between the Lady and Rose. But tonight, the line I usually skirted had not only blurred but faded altogether. I couldn’t help wondering which part of me would be strongest when this was all said and done.” This book, as every one in this series, is non-stop. We are constantly wondering who can Rose trust and who is working for J.R. We get some questions answered but there are still many unsolved mysteries. Who paid Rose’s bail? What is Kate up to? Can Rose trust Joe? Who is Rose’s true father? And there are many more. I believe the next book, Thirty-Six and a Half Motives, is the final book in this series. It is due out in May and I can’t wait. I have loved Rose for so long, I can’t imagine my life without her. Will she get her own HEA? Will it be with Mason? Or Joe? My stomach gets all twirly just thinking about it. So, if you haven’t started this series yet, or have some catching up to do, now is the time. You only have a couple of months. “You have fought for everything you have, and you thrive on the struggle. You’re called to it. The harder things are, the better you get.”

Questions will be answered, hearts will be broken, and you will be left with your jaw hanging open. Rose always seems to get herself into trouble, but the support of her friends, her self confidence, and a whole lot of spunk seems to get her through, and this time is no different. Except, sometimes, when you play with fire, you get burned. Rose may finally get what she wanted, be out from under the thumb of all those who had power over her, but at what cost?

This was definitely needed after the terribly suspenseful ending of the last book. Great read from beginning to end. Cannot wait for the next. Hopefully some new romances come along that seemed to brew throughout this book!

I am in a total complete shock. As I sit here, trying desperately to collect all of my thoughts on this book, I have decided to just write what I am feeling right now. Now many of you know that I love reading all of Denise's books because she knows how to tell a great story and leave you wanting more. Well, Ms. Swank, you have left me completely befuddled. I don't know what to write, I don't know what to say. Everything I want to write down in this review would give so much of the awesomeness in this book away. I took my time reading this one. I didn't read it in one setting because I knew that I needed to take my time and make sure I knew what was going on. That being said, I HAD NO CLUE WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN. Everything that I thought would happen didn't. Everything that I thought couldn't happen, did. Twist after twist and not only that, laughs, heartbreak, funny Rose and Neely Kate moments, crying, hating, loving, you name it I was feeling it. Thirty-five picks up right where Thirty-four leaves off. You don't miss anything. From the start of this book, you knew that you were in for the ride of your life. The ups and downs that go along with every Rose book, you know at some point in time you are going to go through the grieving process. Right now I am in the baffled portion of the process. I have a HUGE glass of wine with me just to make me feel OK. (Wine makes everything OK right?). I need to read more of what is going to happen. I need Thirty-Six to come out like now. I don't like waiting at all. But, I know that Denise is going to make the next one even better than this one.
