Overview

Excerpt from Thirty Letters on Various Subjects

The author, conscious of these expectations, in endeavouring not to disappoint them, abates of his familiarity, and arranges his arguments; which, not agreeing with the freedom of the first design, his book becomes a kind of mongrel performance - more correct, but less characteristic.
