Overview

This four-CD collection does include all of the Who's big hits and the lion's share of their key album tracks. Previously unreleased rarities include some interesting selections (the '60s outtakes "Early Morning Cold Taxi" and "Melancholia"), but these bits and pieces, which include some live versions, commercials, Keith Moon sketches, and the like, are mostly inessential.

The best - and worst of the Who. It's all here: the decade-and-a-half-plus helter skelter ride of the band that were never boring (not before the eighties, anyway !);The fire (amazing live versions of Won't Get Fooled...and Bargain ..and Underture ..etc);the humour;the skill (what a bass player);the arrogance & swagger;the unintelligible concept pieces (with the inclusion of Rael II - made even more so !);the gloriously freeflowing romanticism ;the embarrassing failures; and (despite what Richie Unterberger claims )the UTTERLY ESSENTIAL out-takes/comedy routines/stage announcements. If you even remotely like The Who - buy this boxed-set.
